Hello all,

I've been thinking about this for awhile now, and I would love to find out.

I'm Canadian and would love to work at Disneyland. (Either in Florida or California.)

I found some links online where you can apply at Disney, but there isn't any information on how they hire the facepainters. :-/

Does anyone has some information on this? I would really love to know more about this. And I'm sure some of us would love to know this as well.

In the meantime, I'll keep looking ...

I'm Elaine, I'm new!

I've done some voluntary facepainting for our local children's hospital in the past. I was going to do it on a fairly regular basis - get permission from a child-friendly venue, set up, do the faces and ask parents for cash donations in return.

The hospital are happy, I have some venues ready.

Here's the question - would you think it's ethical for me to hand out my contact details at these events? I think I'd be daft not to use the free advertising - but would ...

So I've just started to get serious about the business aspect of face painting and I am on the hunt for some good books. I apologize if this has been posted before, but I didn't come across it...So far the only promising thing I've found is a "How to Start a Face Painting Business" manual by Philadelphia Tivoli. It's a bit on the pricey side for me, but it'd be well worth it if it's as good as it looks. Does anyone know of anything else worth reading or any reviews on the manual.

Thanks! ...

Charging per face a birthday parties......???

I am a slow painter--I've mostly worked festivals, but recently did a birthday party. I was a little nervous knowing I was working per hour. It took me 2 hours to paint 12 full faces. I would have a hard time not painting all the children that wanted to be painted.

Does anyone charge per face for birthday parites?

For example:

10 children = $XX.00

15 children = $XX.00

etc.........

I would think this would decrease my stress level.

Your input would be greatly appreciated!!

I'm usually fairly creative with coming up with ways to raise money but I'm finding myself at a dead end, or it could be my lack of patience and desire to get the business rolling. If you don't mind answering how were you able to fund your completed kit? Did it take a while?

However, I'm getting paranoid that they could change their mind and then I could get sued or something (heh...time for that Liability Insurance to kick in)...

Hey guys,

I have a website started to show off my work. However, I have yet to start a portfolio. I know, I know, carriage before the horse. I just was looking for some help on how to create one. I have used sites like www.mypublisher.com for photos and such, but first I need this done in the next day or so. Second, I want to be able to add to it as I continue to create. Can you guys please throw some ideas out there on how you have created yours? Books…Photo Albums…Folders...What have ...

Hey again..ok, another question.

I created my website on Google Sites, as it was free, and had everything I needed to do it solo. However, the name is crazy long and clumsy for remembering. So where and what do you all do for a 'front page' site or your actual site. Are there any 'fairly reasonable' sites with a nice short domain and not too much money per year? All I need now is a 'www.whatevernameIwant.com' type site, and I can use it as a redirect to my actual site.

Any suggestions?

Hi Everyone

Usually I have a few photo's of my work up at events but mostly the kids tell me what they want to be and I paint it.

I really want to make more of a design display and add more designs for the kids to chose from..

I was wondering what you guys get asked to paint most out of your designs???

I'm always asked for a Princess, batman, spiderman, butterflies, hearts and flowers

Could some of you let me know what it is I need to get started in this business paper-work wise? A lot of the information I'm finding is for American face painters. I know I have to register my company name unless I'm just using my actual name, and I know I have to have insurance... but beyond that, I'm a little lost! I know that I don't have to have a gst number, so that's a good thing!

Do I need to have a business license? Is there anything else I should look into? Is there a resource ...

So the only 'gigs' I've done have fortunately all been indoors and nice and cozy.

However, I know that as summer approaches and as I get some outdoor gigs, I'll probably need to get a 'tent', or something like it, and probably a banner and all that.

What type structure do you have and do you like it? Is it easy to put up solo (big factor for me), and what would you do different now that you've had yours for awhile. I don't want to buy something and then wish I'd spend x dollars more ...

I have a question about payment. If you're being paid by the hour do you get full payment up front, half up front and half after the job is complete, or all of it afterward? I've only ever done events where I charged per face, so I'm just wondering how everyone else handles this.

How to approach leaving your Biz Cards at local establishments?

Hi All,

I have come up with what I feel is a long list of places that my target market might patronize.

Now my questions are :

What literature can I leave for them to see? (cards, brochures, something else?)

Where should I leave it?

And finally, how should I approach asking the establishments to display my cards etc.? What can I really offer to them for keeping and displaying my things?

Thanks everyone!!

How to hand out more business cards!

Promoting ourselves can sometime be nerve racking. You want to give your business card to everyone you paint, but you feel a bit pushing doing so.

I got this idea from a painter friend in the UK.

Put the directions for removing face paint on the back of your card. This gives you the perfect excuse to hand everyone you paint and the adult with them a card as well as the mom for the goodie bags for parties. Of course they want the directions, even though we know it is no mystery. ...
