What face do you cringe inside at when it is requested??
or What Face did you make a go at and completely mangle????
While I am newer I am always thrilled to get at any skin and paint it! But I have to say Spidey's popularity and staying power may be starting to wear on me. I try to mix it up with a different color or a half mask (on top, half face vertical, diagonal) if I know the kid will be eating soon.
My worst "mangle face" was an ill fated attempt at a monkey - it just looked like a wrong dog!! The kid was confused and the mom was headed to the restroom to wash it off while I apologized and explained that I would try it but wasn't sure how it would go and if they would like it...... Thankfully it was an unpaid/no tip volunteer gig for my mom club! and there were awesome faces I hade already done walking around. NOW I am better at saying "I can try, but you may be very disappointed - I make a killer "whatever" and you can choose whatever color or style you want. (i call it the old bait and switch!!! ha ha ha!)

heh I did a monkey face too and in my opinion it was like a cute curious george looking face and the mom didn't like it! She wanted it all hairy looking and bushy eyebrows!! So I did it and I thought it looked scary lol
Anyway the one I have been cringing at lately is sponge bob!! I had a couple kids request it and I said uh, sorry its not on my menu but then I felt bad....so I looked up a pic of him and the next time I went to go paint I had it in my display book...UH, I hated doing it! Took to long, too many details (and it was just his face I did!) Maybe its just me but I didn't like painting him. Sooo its off my menu again

I have a green eye design that I hate hate hate doing... most people's eyebrows are just too bushy to paint through them and have it look nice. I've removed it from most of my boards (I have several for PPF or different occasions) but every now and then I will grab a board that has it on there and suddenly be swamped with requests for it.
Other than that it's mostly color combos that make me cringe! "Can I have it in blue fading into orange with yellow outlining?" Uh huh... that's going to look reeeaaaallll good... *groan* and the reaction is always as predicted. They usually totally hate it, and I wish I could see into their minds to know what they THOUGHT it would look like.

Sponge Bob is a pain.. .I get out of it, and others like him, AND Hockey team logos by saying "I'm sorry I can't paint licensed characters or logos...."
I don't really mind Spidey... just why is it always the wigglers that want him???
I've never found monkeys to be a problem... they are actually pretty simple...
There really isn't one that I hate doing... I do get TIRED of some of them, but, they usually aren't hard to do, just the repetition gets really monotonous...
When I get to the point that I really don't want to paint something again I just take it out of my book and display... I have so many photos that the kids tend to pick something from the collection, so once I pull something out it doesn't get asked for anymore.

This may sound weird, but I have two. Princesses and Fairies. I have a couple of each that I am fine to do. But, children always have it in their mind what they look like and I have had a few melt downs when they didn't come off the chair looking like Cinderella.
I always try and ask them what they think they look like and it is still a pretty frightening experience.

That's one of the advantages of having more than 120 photos of named designs for them to choose from... they pretty much ask for something from the photos so I know and THEY know what the design will be ... I can't remember any meltdowns due to disappointment.
I've had a couple who did not like the feeling of the paint and wanted it removed though!!

Metina-
I have had that experience too of "i want to be a) snow white, b)ariel, c)belle or d)tinkerbell!" and then kidlet getting upset when I tell them "I will make you a beautiful princess that is all "you"!"..... we do our best.
Still I don't use a board with pictures - because I like the kids to use their imaginations and I feel more challenged.... some of my most fun faces were done from a child's request and imagination. (And because I am still building my portfolio of faces I have painted. no model release forms just a verbal ok from mom or dad that they don't mind if their child would end up on my website eventually. -not sure if I should take that chance.)

I cringe when they request Scooby Doo... especially if they're young and I have a long line. It's small and detailed and not good for wigglers or when I'm in a hurry. I really like the ease, cuteness and speed of the puppy that Anna "Clash" posted on youtube! I might take down Scooby now and use that one. I'm loving it and have been practising it furiously!
I don't mind doing my Spongebob though, it's not a pain like Scooby!
Wyndy... I worry about special requests also, especially if I have no clue how to go about it. I usually tell them I don't do that design. If they're really set on it, I tell them I'll "try", and then I go for it.
I had a request on Halloween for the Gene Simmons Kiss face. It's one I'd actually been wanting to try, but I told him I couldn't do it unless I could see a picture of it. I knew there was no way I could conjure that up in my brain. I don't know if he lived close by or what, but he got a printout of it and brought it back to me. It took me forever to do, but now I have a pic and can add that. He ended up paying me $25 for that face! What a surprise!
I usually charge $5 and $8 for my faces.
