Okay, so I have a problem. I really, really want to get to know the other face painters in my area (there are about five that I know of).

The only problem is that none of them seem to want to get to know me. I've tried reaching out to them, even approached one after a gig that we had both worked (which didn't really turn out well because she accused me of stealing her business, even though I had been booked for the event for months and she was a last minute addition. She was also charging $20 for a full face and $15 for a half face, which might have had something to do with why I got more business).

I've contacted them by phone and email, but I've never heard back from those I emailed. And those I've called, if I left messages, do not call back. If I am lucky, they might answer. But as soon as I mention that I am a face painter, they turn really rude really quick.

I don't know what I am doing wrong! I don't want to steal anyone's business. Actually, with my schedule as limited as it is, I'm kind of looking for someone I can give business to, as well as someone I can jam with. But none of them will give me the time of day.

I am just so frustrated with the rudeness. Maybe it's just where I live? I've heard from some customers that the other face painters they contacted before me were really rude (One lady even told me that the face painter she had originally contacted outright told her that she hated children).

Okay, I'm ranting a bit now, which needs to stop.

Basically, I'm coming to you guys asking for advice. How do I approach these people? If I can get them to talk to me, how do I go about trying to set up a jam? Any advice on the diplomacy of face painting would be welcome.
