"Landsliding" glitter gel...oops

Post by bee on Sun Mar 11, 2012 7:05 am

So ok i've never really used the stuff, but had a cheap brand i bought when i first started and thought i'd give it a go on one of my kids, well wherever i put it on the paint just slid down her face!
Is this a case of using too much? I mean seriously i could barely see any glitter!
Or do you just use it as an outline as opposed to putting it on the actual face paint.

Do you have any tips/tips to share...pllleeeaaaasssee!

Most people use glitter gels just for outlining the design and adding little details like dots. Make sure the face paint is dry before adding details with glitter gel. It could also be a matter of the cheap brand not being so great. The forum shop has some lovely glitter gels, I'd recommend trying those!

Sounds like a really cheap glitter gel! Ack! Does it say it's a glitter gel? Is it for face painting or is it a makeup/eye shadow type? Sounds like eye shadow type.

I have to say Suzy Sparkles gel is really nice and easy to work with! You can buy it here in the shop Smile

Glitter gel is for outlining, doing tear drops, dots & swirls, not for filling in an entire design. The weight of it will make it slide off the face. It does sound like your gel may be runnier than most (I'd have to see a pic of it to be sure). I agree, Suzy Sparkles Gel is very nice & would probably be a great brand to learn with. You can get it in the forum shop at www.facepaintforumshop.com

Yes, well... I got my silly farm order delivered yesterday and forgot that i had ordered some Liquid Bling (3 weeks is a long time to wait!).
Anyhow, drew a little something on my arm and the difference was immediately obvious...Liquid Bling (is a lot more blingy!) had about a million more specs of glitter per squeeze.
The other stuff i used before is more like clear hair gel with a very faint hard to see sparkle.
Not to mention that the tip on the LB made a hell of a difference to controlling the amount you put on.
So i dont think i will be having too may more troubles with it!
Also on your high recommendations I have ordered some of Suzy Sparkles glitter gel too (just have to wait for another 3 weeks for it to get here!)
lol!

Oh no, you never have to wait that long for anything from the Forum Shop! That’s ridiculous! A week at the longest is what my wait time usually is. I just placed an order for almost $500 worth of supplies from Metina (putting that tax check to work! Very Happy ) on the evening of Sunday the 11th. It shipped out on either Tuesday or Wednesday, can’t remember which, and it arrived here yesterday, Monday the 18th! AND I didn’t even ask for expedited shipping! Metina is AMAZING fast at shipping! She’s a face paint shipping ninja, I’m sure of it. cheers

I'm in the U.S. Virgin Islands and it usually takes a little over a week. It always gets held up in Puerto Rico for a couple days...or at least it appears so on the track& confirm thing for USPS. Then again to get something you ordered in just a little over a week is considered fast down here if it's not through DHL or FedEx. flower

You could probably salvage the Derivan gel by adding in loose glitter to "thicken" it... if you want to bother.

And my first order from the forum shop shipped on March 5th... and today is the 22nd. It dropped off the USPS tracking system on the 6th.

Someday I hope to receive it. Canada Customs and Canada Post are EVIL Evil or Very Mad
