My make shift kit/setup

Post by Lady Jayde on Mon Sep 07, 2009 12:01 pm

Okay, here is my meager kit.. It's nothing compared to what I WANT, but I have to be realistic as I'm just getting into this.

I opted to use letter-sized (A4/8.5 x 11) document/project cases since I don't have enough of any one brand to justify buying the snazzy cases for them. I actually like my little cases because the lid and bottom are held together with removable hinge pins but the lids are still held pretty securely with the latch even after I took out the pins. For the inserts, I just snatched one of the left over black mats I had in storage (the kind you put down on a playroom floor) and cut out appropriate sized circles. It's not the prettiest thing around, but my paints don't slide and slam around and that's what I wanted. I have a few more pots of Snaz coming and then I'll work on splitting pots to maximize space (I have another document case lying in wait, just in case).

I wouldn't mind having the professional cases, but if these work for me, I'll stick with them since I can mix brands in each case.

My favorite item is my little canvas drawer thing. It houses my glitters (which all laydown nice and neat, my shimmer powders and misc. tools. It was the best $10 I've spent in a while!

So nice and clean! I seem to fight an never ending war against colour and glitter all over. How do you manage?

Okay, what exactly do you use the sponge mop thingies for? I have some, but they don't really give good coverage--more spongey looking. Got any ideas for me to use?

I use them for my minerals and glitter...primarily glitter when I want specific placement...they're useless otherwise

Be not fooled. The only reason it looks this neat is that I just finished doing this. I will never show pictures of what it USED to look like. The sad thing is that ever since I got finished rehabing my kit, I've not wanted to touch it for fear of messing it up! What's sadder is that I have all of this and can't use any of it to its fullest capacity. I really just feel like I'm playing "grown up face painter"... I'll get over myself sooner or later.

I'm part crow Perry... I love shiny and blingy!

April, I learned how to split my cakes up here infact! It's really cool because now I have duplicate splits in my surplus!

By meager I mean that there are about 8 Snaz colors, 20 Kryolan Colors, 12 DXF colors and 4 Paradise colors that I want but will never be able to justify getting. My kit is nothing like yours, like I said, I feel like I'm not really a face painter, but I play on on this forum. You know how I feel about the aluminum case... I've drooled over every PM i've sent you...

Looks like you have plenty. You take out more than I do on a job. Looking good.

Well, I'm one of those everything-but-the-kitchen-sink type of people, Metina. Hopefully, when I get my Snaz in, I'll have complimentary colors to split the cakes with and I'll only have the 3 palette cases. I wish there was a bit more product consistency for each manufacturer, kwim? I despise my Snaz black but love the DFX and Paradise black and I love my Snaz Ochre but don't care for the same tone in any other but Paradise (and they call it mango!). If I could choose one company, it would be Paradise or DXF, but I like the Snaz for school projects because of the way they are very vocal about their committment to safety of the users of their products. Today I've only gone out with half of my inventory shown, but now that I have the cases and the bag to fit them in, I may just lug it all with me.

I'm an organizational freak, can't you tell? Of course, nobody looking at my family room would believe it. Kidsgotta love 'em cause you sure as heck can't put them back where they came from!!

all of my stuff goes in a big rolling tool box (Stanley FatMax) and I much prefer it over carrying stuff... but then I've got a whole clown show with balloons and a 12 ft parachute to bring as well as the paints.
