New to this

Post by judyo on Sat Mar 24, 2012 11:47 am

Hi peoples, I live in Springfield Mo and I am a member of the Farmers Market of the Ozarks and I am an artist painting on all different projects to sell. I have done a few small amateur face painting trials on family members, but want to try it at the market this year. Can I have a few suggestions from you all and I need to buy supplies. I wanted to find something that I could make a few more bucks at and find my niche and also what to charge. Can I have some help sisters? I want to paint more gentle looking projects and religious. I'm pretty new too, but I wanted to say hi! I started out with some basic Snazaroo stuff, but now I have a combination of Snaz, Paradise, and the essential Wolfe White and Black for line work. I want to try TAG but I can't justify it to my husband yet with my large supply of Paradise. ;-) I've gotten all my brushes at the local craft store (Michael's is the closest to me), and I have a tack shop about 2 miles from my house that I get all my sponges from (a bag of 12 for $4, which I then cut into halves or quarters!)

Just like most of the others, I don't advertise cheek art anymore. It takes just as long as a lot of the half and full faces that I do and it doesn't have the "WOW Factor" that brings people over to you from across a crowd. There is a nice big section on "what to charge" in the Frequently Asked Questions section of this forum that I saw. Smile http://www.facepaintforum.com/t2558-how-much-do-i-charge-for-ppf

Another thing I've noticed is that while I am constantly trying to add new and exciting designs to my design board, there are a few that I always keep on there because they are my "best sellers." After just a few weeks, you'll know which ones are yours!

Have you ever heard about Carmen Chase's Gospel Face Painting Program? I bought it because I do a TON of volunteer work at my church, and do a lot of fundraisers for a Christian private school near my home. Each design comes with a gospel lesson. They are VERY basic designs (about 2-3 minutes or less with practice), but there is nothing scary about them and you can preach the gospel (or not) while you paint since you said you are looking for "religious."

So, welcome and all the best wishes to you in your new business!
