Okay I need some help

Post by billiebcc on Wed Mar 28, 2012 7:49 am

I am doing something wrong with my white over color. I have searched the forum, and I have read all 80+ matches. I still don't know what I am doing wrong! I must either have my Wolfe white too wet or it's something else. My red base, I'm use Paradise, seems to be the worse. I am making sure the base is completely dry. I am using a light touch and I am still re-activating the color and it is making my white pink! Could it be the white is too wet? Anyone have any advice? Please? This is driving me absoultely insane! I look at Suzy's lovely pictures and I want to scream! Or throw the paints out the window. I am so very frustrated with myself right now I could cry.

So you're saying when you put your white over red, it turns pink? It could be a couple of problems.

I've heard Paradise is a very creamy paint, so using a different brand over top of it might be the issue.

Also make sure the red base is completely dry before applying the white.

And for the Wolfe white, make sure to work in your wet brush until it's a creamy consistency and has little bubbles in it.

I've never had any trouble getting nice white linework with Wolfe.

If the tips above don't work, post a pic for us to see what's going on. Smile

Probably... the white it too wet.

It is possible to get okay white overlay with almost any brand if it is THE RIGHT CONSISTENCY. With Wolfe it doesn't take much water but you do need to work it to get a thickness similar to liquid craft paints... thick but smooth.

And yes, a light touch! There will always be SOME bleed through if you are dragging line or covering larger areas, but drops and swirls etc. usually are nice and white.

I don't work with Paradise so can't comment on whether that is an issue or not.

Thank you everyone! I was looking at my daughter's masks and my other lines with DFX didn't have that problem so I must be adding too much water. I'll try AGAIN when I get home tonight and if I still have a problem I'll post a pic. But I will keep trying!!!!!!!

I figured it out, it was a combination of several things. I was using a too small of brush and trying to get too think of a line with it and my paint wasn't thick enough! Plus I wasn't using a round brush. So now while they aren't always white white...they certainly aren't PINK!

Thank you all!

Shannon, I just want you to know I was really close to emailing you last night but I was sure you would think I was crazy....well I am but well......
