If you look here there are some videos on how to paint them...http://www.google.com/search?q=how+to+painttiger+lily&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&client=firefox-a&oq=how+to+painttiger+lily&aq=f&aqi=g-b1&aql=&gs_l=serp.3..0i8.15281l17785l0l19182l12l12l0l0l0l2l143l1162l9j3l12l0.frgbld.

Step-by-step Pink Tiger Lily

Post by Denise Cold on Tue Apr 03, 2012 4:16 pm

This one is made with a flame cake and black. I found it when I searched for tattoo patterns:

The next pictures are a step-by-step of a pink tiger lily:
Load a #8 filbert on the pink and white stripes of your berry cake and make the top and two side view "wing" petals. You do this by doing a regular half petal at the top but then just smoothing out the bottom: (I had to redo these first two photos so they'll look a little different)

Now add the top three petals. Make them a little bigger than the bottom ones:

Add a bud out to the side. Load yellow from your snake or leaf cake and shoot teardrops out from the center. Add a couple of yellow stripes on the bud to tie it together with the flower:

(Detail of bud):

Now load the bright green from your leaf or snake and draw in stems and leaves. The leaves shoot out in threes from a node on the stem. Put in stamen stalks in the middle of the flower:

Load a mixture of red and purple from your berry cake on a small round and top the stamen stalks:

Wipe your brush off on a towel or paper towel until there is a just a little color left and shade the back leaves so they recess:

Now load your round again and make very tiny dots on the petals and taper them out as you get farther from the center:

Load white on a small round and starting at the tip make a small teardrop and shoot it toward the center and VERY LIGHTLY outline the petal:

The front petals should have a thicker outline and the bottom petals should taper off where the shading starts:

The same instructions would work for a flame/dragon cake also but I would use yellow for the stamen stems and to tip and outline. You would use red and black in a dragon cake for the dots.

I like looking at tattoo flowers for ideas on clustering and shading.

D.

Thanks! I'm glad you guys like it. I'm thinking with bigger brushes would make a nice pregnant belly.
