Resurrecting steampunk
There was a steampunk-themed week challenge some months back that I never took part in - bad me.
I just attended a steampunk event, though, and got all inspired. The next day, an order arrived with my new set of mehron metallic powder. It was clearly a Sign, so I played.
(OMG. I love them. And the TAG gold. Yay.)

Whattay'all think? Anybody else wanna join me? I've only seen a few steampunk designs yet, so it's a relatively blank slate for originality (and a pretty untapped market - there was NO ONE painting at this event and you bet I'm going to stake it out next year!)
ETA: this is off-topic, but: am I the only one who, every time I do an asymmetrical design on myself, kind of do a double take when I see the photo because it's a mirror image of what I think I've done? I mean, I KNOW I'm working backwards in the mirror, but it still always throws me off when I see the actual result. Gets me every time.

I am so intrigued by steampunk on a personal level, but I don't think there is a market for it in my area yet(trends seem to be way behind around here). I totally love your design! The shading is really good and I'm lovin the robot bug leg thing on the brow. It's just fun to look at. Great work!
And yes, I find photos disorientating when they are of designs I've done one myself

Re: Resurrecting steampunk
I was surprised at the turnout for this event. It was the usual geek crowd you'd expect at stuff like this; not many kids, but the kind of adults who'd probably be into face paint. There was some goth makeup going on. I think I've seen a few people do henna in steampunk too, but I haven't dabbled in henna.
Anyhoo...I'm going to keep working up some designs. Just the other day I posted about burnout - this event seems to have given me my mojo back.

This is fantastic - I love it........ hope to do something Steampunk soon...
Re: Resurrecting steampunk
Cool design! But with all those gears and things in steampunk it would take me forever I think!
Re: Resurrecting steampunk
Yes, Lonnie, this took me like an hour. With time and practice I could probably take it way down though.
But I think for an event like the one I attended this weekend, longer things would have been okay. It was all adults. I probably could have even booked private sessions for those who really wanted to go all out for their costume du jour. Or for the masquerade ball. I'm kicking myself for not thinking of it to begin with.

dont forget to use pouncers as gear bases, cuts down super quick on timing. PLUS I think BAM has a gear stencil..or she was talking about one. I know I heard it somewhere I was excited.

I face painted at a teen video challaenge with the NC Library system and the kids introduced me to steampunk...way cool. I researched ideas and then was inspired to try these two out:

I painted these last time we had a steampunk theme on here.....also, just wanted to say, Daniel Lasris has a FB page titled Theme of the Month. Here is a link http://www.facebook.com/ThemeOfTheMonthContest He has just changed the theme to Steampunk......give it a go if you like : ) (it has to be a new painting though) ; ) not something you did ages ago, like these two.
