Strawberry Shortcake and Bubble Guppies???

Post by Becky521 on Fri May 04, 2012 8:16 am

These theme parties are killing me! This Sunday, I have a "Strawberry Shortcake" Party that I have to plan some designs for and in a few weeks, I have a "Bubble Guppies" party. If you've never heard of Bubble Guppies, they are a Canadian born preschool cartoon. It is small round merpeople and fish. Mr. Grouper and Bubble Puppy will be cute and easy, but what else should I do? My practice head is scheduled to arrive tomorrow, but I'll do a few practice designs on myself after my day job tonight if I find time and share what I've come up with.

The last Strawberry Shortcake party I did, I painted party masks and added the fruit they wanted as the embellishments (strawberries, blueberries, etc) but I'd like to be a little more creative this time. Does anyone have photos to inspire me with? I just am afraid this is going to turn into a bunch of embellished cheek art!

Thanks guys and gals!

I usually find that the kids never want anything to do with the "theme" of the party... I'd say with Bubble Guppies (which my kids LOVE) you're safe with fish and mermaids and don't forget bubble puppy!

I did a few girls once that wanted to be Raspberry Tart... I painted pink bangs on their forehead with a green headband at the top with white polkadots on it, then gave them eyeshadow and lipstick and lots of sparkles... they were happy with that Very Happy

Perry is so right! I have spent a lot of wasted time worrying and preparing for themed parties and most of the time the kids don't want anything but what they want.

But not all... I have a Monster High party next week and each girl wants to be a specific character.

I don't know why parents do this. I had one booking where they were OTT on the Princess thing... and ONLY the birthday girl got anything remotely princessy.

And I did a Batman themed party and all they wanted was Spiderman...

I know most likely no one will get the designs for the theme, but it helps me flex those creative muscles a little planning it. I did a Thomas party in the fall, and the only one that got my dreaded Thomas design was the birthday girl (yes, I said girl - W00T!). I don't ever put it on my board because I know every 4 year old boy would want it and it's such a pain.

Here is the design I came up with thanks to my new practice head! The birthday girl ended up getting a butterfly instead, but her cousin did get the Strawberry Shortcake design. Her mom was SHOCKED that she sat still that long so I could paint all the intricate details. It went REALLY well actually.

My new petal brush allowed me to make all those (almost) perfectly shaped strawberries and leaves in seconds.
