All things Fairy Floss!

Post by Coral3 on Sat May 05, 2012 1:55 am

I've come across quite a few comments now about the TAG fairy floss split cake...people have it, but don't seem to use it for anything. Then others have it & LOVE it, but it seems like they only use it for butterflies.

So I thought maybe we could get a Fairy Floss thread going for pics of designs which utilise this really pretty (but oft neglected) cake Very Happy

Anyway, here's my contribution (from another thread, so please forgive the repeated pic)

I'm loving the warm end of Fairy Floss for fish atm & then I use the cool end for splashes.

Love those fish. AWESOME! Did you use a flat brush to make them? Just wondering if you had to use two sizes- large one for body and small one for eyes?

Great idea! I'm one of the people who can't seem to find a use for it. I'd love to see some examples of Fairy Floss in action. Smile

Wow Melody! I'm amazed at how opaque you got the Fairy Floss to look on your tiger. What kind of sponge do you use? Do you apply it fairly wet?

I use these sponges exclusively
http://www.amazon.com/Synthetic-Sponges-Clean-Absorbent-Inexpensive/dp/B000BUP5F4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1336399264&sr=8-1

They are dirt cheap and work perfectly.

Um... I am not sure if I did anything special. Spritz the sponge, spritz the cake, I have no idea. I just... do it. I usually spray both the cake and the sponge and then have at it! I need to re-do this one anyway, because this was back when I was still very new (and fairly lousy), and I will pay closer attention to what I do, and let you know if that's ok?

I am using snazaroo sponges, they are a little smaller (both the red and the white) and that helps me with control. I also like the firm feel to them. The red is perfect for tiny faces. I only have a few of the bigger sized sponges (the yellow sized, they are tack sponges from the orginal horse company-cheeeeeep)

Looking forward to seeing this cake in action. I think it's pretty but not also not sure how it works in the field.
On a side note, Melody: How do you do your cheetah spots now?

I'm liking my snaz sponges a lot too. I've figured how to load them for rainbow cakes and splits and they keep my hands a lot cleaner because of the bump to hold on to so I'm not using so many wipes. I also like the chisel tip for things like highlighting Batman's mask and making fur. I still want all black ones for the clean look of them. Someday.

Sorry about the thread jack....has anyone tried a sunset scene with Fairy Floss? I was wondering about it the other day.

Here is my fairy floss face painting, pretty similiar to everyone elses design, but then what girl doesn't want to be a fairy floss fairy....

I generally dislike sponging but I am trying to get used to it. I prefer the smaller half rounds from Snazaroo.

HI! I want to know more about your cheetah spots, too! I love Fairy Floss, but I don't think I have any pictures. I'll look again and post if I do. I do a princess mask, a flower mask and an eye design with it. Love the soft colors!

Love your mask scgilland, and yours too Daizy! - and I'm thinking I may have to try a fairy-floss tiger sometime soon...

Just a side question: all you fabulous Americans out there call fairy floss (ie fluffly spun sugar on a stick) 'cotton candy' don't you? Or do you know it by 'fairy floss' as well?

^ it's pretty much exactly the one Lisa Joy Young does on her youtube tutorial...except I do coloured lips, rather than black.
