hello from california

Post by jm2kidz on Tue May 08, 2012 10:02 pm

Hello everyone. so, i AM a newbie Shocked i have dabbled in face painting at family gatherings for a few years now, but nothing serious... BUT now i am ready to try and plunge in full force (yikes). i am a registered pediatric intensive care nurse by profession...but i wish i was a face painter (all the kids happy faces). I am planning on educating myself with your help, of course fabatv and LJY and to eventually get out there and market myself...I have invested a million dollars (or at least it feels like that) on an extensive FP kit Smile i cant help it, its soooooo addicting Twisted Evil . anywhoo, i am honored to be part of this group/forum and really appreciate all the wealth of knowledge everyone shares on this site... wish me luck.

Hey jm2kidz!
I have been volunteering at SickKids Hospital in Toronto since October 1998. There is a way to combine both your accreditation as a pediatric nurse AND your love of Facepainting. I work under the auspices of ChildLife. I follow all the same gown/glove/mask practices that the staff do. If there are contact precautions, I still follow all staff guidelines (as in MRSA). If there are airborn cautions, I bring in Q-tips loaded with glitter and colors and my kit never enters the room. There is never double-dipping in the paint. (Yes, double-loading. No to double-dipping.) I clean and sterilize my brushes after every patient. Sponges at the hospital get thrown away after use. (I use Dollar Store sponges at the hospital.) At FP events outside the hospital, I soak my sponges in soapy water, then throw them all in a mesh laundry bag and wash them with enzymatic soap.
The Facepainting makes the children SO happy.
Happy Painting!
