Selling you body painting at events?

Post by SamFantastico on Wed May 09, 2012 10:27 am

Hey ladies, we are looking to expand beyond the paint per face and offer body painting, large chest and upper torso designs at our debut at wizard worlds Chicago comic convention. We want to offer all the super hero masks and villian faces that are put there but do more for the braver patrons. so my question is has anyone done this? How much do you charge? Any tips would be great

I have and charge $20-$45 for each painting. I've yet to find a venue where's it's really taken off, but I do usually find at least a couple people excited about it. I try to keep the paintings under 10 minutes. I did this one this weekend for $45 including the face.

That is an AWESOME idea for a comic con! It will be SO much more popular there. I would say base the price off of time. Practice a couple of designs and see how long they take you compared to a face painting design. If a $10 face takes you 7 min to paint. Then, a body painting (chest or whatever)... takes 10 min... maybe $15 or $20 for the body?

$45. Wow! I can't imagine anyone around here paying that. (but I'm in Utah, which is "frugal" central). Nice work Whitney!

I had no luck at my comic con. Offered body painting and had no clients bite. Ended up just doing a ton of faces. It's hard to judge the crowd until you're there. Although, huge outdoor music festivals have seemed to be the best venues I've found so far.

That's really neat Whitney. We will probably just do body painting demonstrations through out the day while another one of us does the paint per face and tattooed. I'm super excited!

I've charged $45 for torsos one side only. $90 if they want front and back. And $25 for faces that run down the neck. If they want the top half (head/face/neck/chest/back/arms) it is $100.

As Whitney said, though, it really is hit and miss. And if there is alcohol it generally will be a hit, if not... then it will be mostly the least expensive option.

Whitney, that looks great. Since we are in similar weather areas, I was wondering if you sealed it? The heat has been awful here, and at my last event I was trying my best to steer people in the direction of glitter art, but most went with painting.

I kinda run with Shannon's philosophy. Once they leave my chair, it's not my responsibility anymore. I used to seal things to try to keep them perfect, but I stopped. If they want it to last, they'll take care of it. If they don't, they won't. As long as I get a photo first, I'm happy.
