Just wanted to share my little motivator I made myself

Post by Mizzzard on Thu May 17, 2012 2:02 pm

So every so often I get into "I suck" mode not just about painting but other stuff too. I stayed home from work today due to a migraine and decided to take this time to practice. When I was done I looked back at my first time ever trying to do a tiger face (back when I had to mix my colors to try to make an acceptable orange) then I looked at my face today and thought I should do a side by side for whenever I get down on myself.
So here it is:

I know the last one isn't great but it sure is an improvement from the first one lol

has anyone else done this? (I think I saw one from shannon a while ago i think involving skulls) If anyone has, I'd love to see them. Smile

Good idea, Mizzzard! It's great to look back and see how far we've come. And I can see the last tiger by clicking on the photo, and yes! Dramatic improvement. And, dramatic tiger! Great job :0)

I wish I had pics of my early work.... that was before we had the brains to take pics and back when my mom and I didn't see ourselves doing this for 10+ years... XD

Face and Body Artist Group. I like that one and the One Stroke Face Painting Group. They both have good stuff coming through all the time.

I do actually have a folder on my computer of pictures from earlier and thought, oh I'll go look at those for a bit to feel better about how far I've come and to be honest... now I'm feeling a little down. I had been thinking lately that I had come so far and it was all so awesome and looking back at my older stuff, I don't feel like it was that much worse like I thought I was in my head. Now I'm feeling kind of stuck Sad

I'm feeling a little stalled myself. It's my girl designs. My flowers never seem to be as good as I've seen others do and my swirls never seem right. My butterflies are getting better, but not up-to-par. I think everything is fantastic and then I look at the pictures and I'm disappointed. And it never seems that I have enough time for jewels or bling at birthday parties like I want.

I signed up for a monthy subscription for FABAtv again and I did a butterfly trying to do more of a Lynne Jamison style and though it's better, it's just missing so much. I think I might try larger Ben Nye powder designs and see if that helps me. I've never been very good at sponging so maybe I'll have good success with the girl designs like I did when I used the Starblends for boy designs. Maybe I'm a Paradise person after all??? To show you, I'll attach a photo I don't like very much from another photo shoot I did in Emma's photo class. Compared to the tiger I did even earlier in the year, you can tell my girl stuff hasn't progressed as much as my boy stuff.

I feel for you Perry.

Here's the photo from the photo shoot. It's kind of a hot mess:

Here's my Lynne Jamison after butterfly...just not right. I used some stenciling to try and add something to it. The top wing needs to go higher:
