*Photo Update* Which witch is which?

Post by Miss Ronnie on Wed May 23, 2012 11:20 pm

Next weekend I have the Oz-Stravaganza.... quite a big to-to in our area, held in the village where the author of "The Wizard of Oz" was born.

This years theme is 'The Witches of Oz'....

I'm shamelessly asking for ideas.... have to be quick ...no cheek art.

Here's what I've already come up with:

1) A rainbow over one eye and down the side of face with poppies, starbursts & glitter.
2) A quick version of Lisa Joy Young's witch mask.
3) The yellow brick road, traveling up the side of the face and ending in the middle of the forehead with a quick Emerald City sparkly green skyline.
4) I'm hoping to do a crown that mimics Glinda's from the movie...?
5) A ruby red slipper with glitter ( I guess that one will be kind of cheek arty)
6) A pair of black & white stockings with the ruby slippers on the feet, sitting the one eyebrow and hanging down past the temple area.

Anybody ever done a flying monkey face?

I thought about those, but I don't have a quick version in mind for them...

Maybe I can do the tinman's funnel hat and an over-exagerrated drooping lion muzzle.

Anyone with thoughts on a super quick scarecrow mask?

just do black seams and stitches... you wouldn't even have to sponge a background

I can't post the link riven now, but there is a robot mask tutorial at YouTube, is just like medium half face but very quick to do, just like Perry said with seams and stitches, also remember the witch hat, I imaging a rainbow that ends in the black witch hat

Good idea, Perry! I did this scarecrow last year (the whole bottom of his mouth is smudged from eating birthday cake) but it is too labor intensive to do for a festival.

What about ruby red lips? Do a tin man similar to a cyborg, in silver and with rivets, like iron man? Do a dog, for Toto. You could paint pony tails down the cheeks with ribbons and bangs across the forehead for Dorothy? Do a rainbow horse face, (horse of many colours.) Paint the little cap, tilted on the forehead, that the flying monkeys wear. What about a tornado on the face that has debris in it?

First and foremost if this is a celebration of the Author, you should know he wrote many books set in the WOZ world and it's a very popular series with fantasy nerds like me. The original concept art is nothing like the movie.

Wow, Shandi, I didn't realize how many he's written in the series!
Take a look at the website for this event and see what goes on at this festival...

(The children's park, where I'll be, is always centered around that which is familiar to the kid's... which is, of course, the movie.) Very Happy

The scarerow from the movie has to be the SIMPLEST face painting in the world. Maybe 2 or 3 minutes. The lion too. VERY simple.

Okay then, Miss Smarty-Pants (totallly a term of endearment in this instance!)...

How would you make the scarecrow and the lion simple...because I have a hard time editing myself. I would set out to make it simple and the next thing I know, it would most likely be an exact replica (30 minutes later!!!)

awww...dang I want to go now! I adore his work and would love to do a costume from one of the obscure characters You'd be great with some of the munchkin style makeup and some glamour princess stuff. Boys you could paint huge handlebar curly mustaches and a curl on the forehead Smile

That is adorable! Great idea! I think I may replace the black, white & gray with a funnel cloud stemming from the hat....

Thanks so much! Very Happy

You could always just focus on the muzzle and hair of the lion, keeping the rest of the face really plain....
