I made a sandwich board!

Post by Luvs to paint on Sun Jun 03, 2012 2:13 am

I found these hard plastic handles on e-bay and ordered 3. Today I bought thin oak 2' x 4 sheets and trimmed out all the edges with red duck tape (to avoid any splinters). The wood is nice and smooth so I didn't paint them or stain them. I pre-drilled holes with my dremel and then inserted the nuts and bolts. I wanted feet for my boards and couldn't find what I wanted so I took four heavy duty 2" spring clips that have rubber covered tips. I clipped two to the bottom of each board and tied a 6 inch string from one front clip to one back clip to keep them from spreading open further. Best part is I can use one side of the boards for pay-per-face and add the prices and then completely flip the boards over and have photos without prices for birthday parties, and free events.

I ordered 3 of the handles. So far I've only used one. I try my new boards out tomorrow!

I was able to use clear packing tape to mount my photos. The opposite side, I may mount the photos different, I haven't decided yet.

I was thinking of making one out of some sort of plywood, door hinges and drawer handles. Those handle hinges are really cool though!

any boards thicker/larger and I physically might not have been able to lift it into the back of my truck when I'm by myself. The heavy duty metal clips add some extra weight, so I may keep looking for feet options. It did blow over a couple of times, but I didn't have my tent up so nothing really to stabilize it to. (something else to figure a solution to).

suzy has the link posted above, that's the same price I paid on e-bay. I bought 3 handles without the feet. wish I had bought the feet. I may order them. I used just a standard flat end screw with a bolt.

the handle is hinged so that you can have one side of both boards for your pay-per-face designs with prices added, and when you don't want to show those, flip it completely over and use the back sides for your photos you show at parties or "free" (limited designs) events. I like that I only have to have ONE hinged set of boards and it serves the purpose of 2.

That's it! It did blow over a couple of times, so I do need to re-think that part.

underneath my paints is a folding board I bungee to the lid to extend the lid portion for table top use. it's orange and has velcro attached to hold my card holder secure, velcro's a small business sign, and velcro's an acrylic mirror to the side (to further encourage kids out of my chair). Underneath the lid is a support system I made by taking two foam core boards, cutting to the right height, taping all the sides, and placing in that "groove" to give support to the lid. on the front of the support board, I have "Faces by Lorie" in big sparkly letters.

My husband made me a really cool sandwich board but it is super heavy so I don't use it too often. Too flimsy and it flies away too heavy and it's a pain Sad

my paint cases are sitting in a metal backgammon case I bought at Dirt Cheap for just a few bucks. I removed the set pieces and the divider area and now I have a cute little metal suitcase. I also found one a tiny bit larger/deeper on the same day but it doesn't open flat like the one above. I'll use it for times when I can't take my fat max, or may just put it here on the forum in the swap section.

My daughter has a very inexpensive chalk/dry erase easel we bought from Ikea. She hadn't used it in a while, and it was sitting in the garage. My son used duck tape (fluorescent pink and green) and we used clear scrapbook pages with 4x6 prints of my favorite faces to create a "free" display board! I had all the supplies on hand, and it was lightweight enough to carry, but stood up to the wind. It will work for a while, as I don't do a ton of festivals, and it was really cute! Just the right height, too. Check out easels at Ikea. I think it was only like $30 or maybe even less!
