My first chair was the tall directors chair from Pier 1. Cost about $60 five years ago. The chair was functional, but heavy. I use an aluminum directors chair now.

I use one like that right now - it works, but again, heavy. Going to be getting an aluminum one at some point!

Go to pier one, they will have the tall directors chairs, and they bring them down to $29 when on sale. This is a great first chair, and a fantastic back-up chair. The backs can so easily be replaced or painted or embroidered.

Good luck on your new chair, whatever you get.

I just bought two of these for $50 as I usually sit on a regular chair.

Honestly? Unless you're going to be able to get them for the $29, just save your money up for an aluminum one. I used the wooden ones for years, and they are WAY WAY WAY to heavy. Life is so much easier with the aluminum ones.

I used a wooden one for like...3 years, and I never realised how heavy it was until I got an aluminum one!!! MUCH better! I have the wood one as a back up chair now.

I have a really nice black wood one. It's hefty, but I still like it as it was customized with my Business name on it.

But I'm thinking I might get an aluminun one too for travel.
