Stencil for Belly Art?

Post by jazzi on Mon Jun 11, 2012 10:05 am

Hi all,so im about to do my first belly painting on Saturday! affraid The mum wanted to go with two peas in a pod concept,so i designed the pic below(sry u cant c it all*) for her belly just sketching it out from some combined ideas,It is quite detailed for a first timer belly art but ima giv it a go anyway Shocked ,so thinking to save time & stressing me out i made a stencil of the sketch below ,as read it on another post here about someone using one recently for a quick belly job they had done & thought it was a great time saver,so question i have gone with a stencil to cut down the time but wondering how i go about tracing the stencil,do i sponge around the edging and holes of the stencil or dot it out all the way round the stencil? Also would anyone know how you could keep the stencil attached to their belly or would u have to hold it as u go? scratch Hope all that made sence lol

I did the stencil in CONTACT paper, it was like a giant glitter tattoo stencil, I sopongen the background around it, I left some lines so when I peeled the stencil of the skin I connected the dots and lines. In your pic, I will make the stencil for the peas and leaves the details you can do it free hand.

Hi artyfaces, thanks so much for your reply, the stencil had me stuck for ages.First i went with kinda what your saying about how to make the stencil up,but as not doing it before i didnt think it would work as didnt have your idea to leave the lines so when i peeled the stencil it would work.So i thought i had to have the inner lines so heres a pic of the two stencils one like a large glitter tattoo (all the outlining of whole design) & the other the line detail stencil, please would love from you which one u think would be best to use or niether of them and suggest i make a new one silent Also as u said u sponged the background around the stencil, and peeled the stencil off,can i ask what u used to hold the stencil on to the belly with, was it just some paint? Again thanks so much for all your help & to Lonnie thankyou so much also Very Happy

First is good to know what the mesures of the belly are, usually the have about 13- 15 inches from pelvis to ribcage, you leave 3 inches for the background so that means the height of the stencil 10-13 inches, this is what I would cut, you stick that to belly and paint the background with the sponge, mine was a sky so I painted it white and then I use a texture stencil with blue.

To hold the stencil to the skin cut it out of a CONTAC paper.

You could also get a Hectograph pencil and make a transfer like henna and tattoo artists do.
