So I've heard y'all talk about Sponsors!

Post by acarreon on Wed Jun 13, 2012 6:11 pm

So I've heard y'all talk about getting other people sponsor you when you post up to facepaint! I'm looking into this lowrider car show comming up and haveen't recalled a facepainter at any of them. So I'm going to jump on it. on the vendor form it says $100 for a booth and differnt prices for sponsors..Im not sure on the time of how long it is, im waitin on a phone call back about that..i dont have $100 cuz my hubby hasnt been working, so how would i go about asking for someone to sponser me?

Good question, I am interested also...although I think the event gets the sponsor to cover their cost to hire you....?? Not sure if you are going as a vendor how it works....

I would bet the "sponsor" that the event is talking about is usually someone to give money to the event, like coke, pepsi, or redbull.

When an event finds someone to sponsor you as a facepainter, it may be a business like a local restaurant that will pay your hourly fee and/or pay for your booth fee. Usually the face painting would be free for the attendees. Good luck at your event. (btw, $100 is too much to spend on a booth, i think. at $5 per face, you have to paint your first 20 faces just to cover the cost of your booth!)

I work at festivals and events that get "sponsors" that provide them with the funds to pay me. One multi-day festival I do up in the mountains has had the face painting sponsored every year - last several by the local Lions Club, but also oil companies, utility companies, banks.

I don't get involved in the sponsorship issue, I just suggest that if they would like me there they can find a sponsor to pay my rate. I will offer a "package" which is a folder with promo material about me and why I make an event great that they can use to present to sponsors.

Ok so does that only work when you are known around? Cuz so far all the events that I'm comming across is high dollar! If it's a decent price then there isn't much traffic!

You don't have to be well-known, but you do have to sell yourself as someone they want at their event. Ideally, you'd like the event coordinator to want you so much they're going to pay your hourly rate to have you there. If they can't afford that, you hope they want you badly enough to find a sponsor for you.

How do you do this? Make yourself seem indispensable to the event coordinator. A combination of good communicative sales pitches and charisma will take you pretty far and a decent portfolio can help. Research who is responsible for providing entertainment for the event and start by emailing them...the worst they can say is no, but it's always worth a shot. Good luck!

Mine is on my website. Ideally, I'd like to pare it down to one online page of really good images. There's no sense in posting everything you've ever done - a portfolio should be a place to display only the best stuff you've done. I'm trying to whittle mine down as I create new good stuff.
