I did it!!! I raised my prices!!!

Post by Face Painting by Jessica on Thu Jun 14, 2012 11:38 am

I've been getting a lot of flack from some forum members...Perry...Perry...Perry...Fesspainter...Perry..

So I just wanted to announce my rate raise!! It's on my site, and in my mind! It feels good knowing that I'll be able to work less to make the same amount, and my thought process is so to the point now! Someone asked if I could go back to my old rate for them, and I said Kiss my ***!! Well I said it a little nicer and told them about my Facebook coupon, but I didn't feel bad at all! And when he gave me the go ahead I was so excited Smile

Thanks everyone! Without you guys I probably would've been a $30 painter for years!

Oh come now... I was only trying to get you to charge what you are worth!! If people choose to charge less, they can... you could, but you are worth more than that and you will get it. It seems completely backwards and there is NO rational explanation for it, but you will get better quality and probably MORE business when you charge more. You will be more respected as a professional by charging professional prices. Good for you Very Happy

Hehe thanks. My aunt actually wants to paint with me for the busy gigs and the ones I have to turn away (which has been a lot lately). She wants me to subcontract her so I still get a cut, so that's really cool Smile I guess I'll be lIke her painter pimp.

Congrats! I learned a valuable lesson recently. I was doing a festival, and it was not as busy as last year, and fewer vendors. After opening on Thursday and not being super busy, I ALMOST dropped my prices from 5/8 to all 5. A few people walked by and commented that it was "too expensive"...but you know what? I painted without breaks ALL day Friday and ALL day Saturday! I never had a line of more than 4 or 5 kids, but I had to hold the line to use the restroom (2x) and took one 10 minute break to eat (had 3 people come back after my lunch break), but I was steady the entire time! I'm SO glad I didn't change my pricing!

I agree with Perry. When you charge more (a fair rate), your value as a professional also increases. You're worth it!

there was ONE event around when I was starting where (because there was another painter on site also doing PPF and it was a SMALL event) we agreed to meet HALFWAY on prices at $3 and $5... yes, that was halfway Sad I have NEVER heard so many people complain about how expensive it was in my life. At my current prices there are always a few people (the same ones that ask if it's free, yeah right), but at the lower price it was almost half of the people coming through!! Hold your ground ladies!

Oh, I forgot about this thread, lol.

So I've recently hired on my Aunt because I've been turning away a lot of business lately and she's a teacher so she gets the summers off. I want to be able to pay her at the very least $45 per hour just so she can gain experience.

Is it wrong to up my rates AGAIN? I just did it this month Neutral ...

I've been quoting my $60/hr rate a lot and I haven't heard any boo. I actually got a call from a big software company for their company picnic and I kinda just made up a corporate rate and apprentice rate because I had to offer it to my Aunt.

Or do I have to suck it up until next year so I don't look flakey?

it's your business, you can do whatever you want Wink I don't have a different rate for corporate... my rate is my rate.

Well I wanted to be able to pay my Aunt a decent wage, especially at an intimidating event like this. It's her first one and her kit hasn't even shipped out yet Shocked

She's a pretty creative person though, and she's a teacher so she's around kids all the time. I think she'll do well Smile

I review my rates every year on my birthday, as a present to myself.... it's not always rhe same service that's changing in rates though, for my specific facepainting rates i compare myself to the competition, and make sure i stay around the rates of people at the same level as i am
