Working on the blasted Unicorn...

Post by Denise Cold on Mon Jun 25, 2012 1:26 am

I'm working on my unicorn because girls and women alike LOVE unicorns. I'm trying to make it more one-stroke because DUH....I love one-stroke and two...I wanted more impact for less work.

I kind of combined a few people's designs one I have labeled Willis-Wright and the other is from Athena Stovall, who actually works here in Utah. Anyway...I liked WW's unicorn over the eye and I like that Athena used one-stroke for the mane...why was I not doing this before? You can match their clothes, make it rainbow colored, etc.

I used 3/4" angled shader for both the white and the one-stroke. With the white paint I had left on the brush I made a body and wings. Emma said she liked it better when I used the unicorn cake over the eye too but I liked the idea of make the eye a body.

This one is much easier than my old unicorn and I think it has more impact. I still want to do a eye design (where the eye is the unicorn eye) like Clayton and other's do. I think with the one-stroke cakes it will be quick and easy too.

Anyway...I'm still working on placement so I get the best result but this is stage one of the re-do.

I like Denise! My hubby loves your avatar - he said that he can't see your face - all he sees is a wolf - now all i got to do is learn to paint like you! Smile

I like it! I've been working on the eye design style of unicorn as well. Mine's full face.

OK, it's a horse (no horn)

My unicorns never look the same...I use LJY as my go to and my daughter loves that one and it has too have all the same colors as LJY. I'm wondering, Denise, for the bigger teardrops, have you tried the double filbert? I was thinking of trying it if I can get a break from my lil one(is it nap time yet?)

I used the angled brush because I had it loaded to do the nose and head. I'm actually liking it because when I used a round to make the two circles, etc. it stayed wet for a while, I had to fuss with it more and I'd have to come back to fill in the face much later. When I'm using the flat brush it's drying much quicker so I can put the face on a lot sooner. Mine is a little different than her's but Athena's tutorial is a good start: https://youtu.be/t-tLbaqtpOU

Linda, what a cute face on the Pegasus mask one...darling. I did the eye unicorn on myself last night and it turned out pretty cute. I'm using some Snaz white I bought to try as a base. It was a little sheer but much more comfortable than Wolfe or Dfx for the eyes. I think I will use the horsey eye design for a rodeo I have Saturday. I think it will be popular.

My brow design is HUGE with the girls around here.

I've got it step-by-step on my blog (it was also in one of the mags... can't remember which without looking it up.)

Very cute. Unicorns are like magnetic or something. I had like 100 or more designs to choose from and as soon as hubby brought out that board WHAM I ended up doing about 10 before I put it away again. Smile I must give into the demand. Smile

...And...

Unicorns are where we get our face paint from (purtiest poop in the world!)

Pegasus's (sp?) are what Susy Sparkles gets her glitter from!

What part of the Pegasus does the Suzy's Sparkles come from?

I will be right back, I have to go out back and harvest my Glitter Trees and my Wolfe White shrubbery.

HaaHaa! Suzy, I thought it was fairy poop Very Happy

I do unicorns different, sometimes it's a rainbow w/ the head to the side or in the middle (it just depends if & where the bangs are). My model (I use her a lot 'cause she's so photogenic) actually asked for the butterfly & then the unicorn on a 2nd thought, so I "winged" it... No Pun Intended Wink

This is my first unicorn since 2002. Never before has it no one wanted to paint. Until lately, occasionally someone asks me. So I was inspired by the Internet. But so far I'm not very happy. Perhaps I will learn more handsome.
