How do you glue on gems/jewels

Post by Affordable Face Magic on Tue Jul 17, 2012 7:35 pm

Another ? for all you. I bought eyelash glue for jewels, then found out it has latex. Then I got glue for glitter tatts, but if they stay on for 2-7 days??? I can't find any instructions or you tube vids on how to glue on jewels.Tried glue on paint & pressed jewel into it...a mess. Then I thought, well if the glue has to dry for glitter, I must have to wait for jewels too. That takes a while w/long lines. All these jewels & I'm afraid to try them. My party this weekend has an Ariel theme. I bought special dolphin & starfish gems, but am hesitant to try them.

Before I finish painting, I take a Q-Tip, dampen it, and wipe off the place where you want to place the gem.
Dry the spot with dry Q-Tip.
Give it a moment, and apply some non-latex eyelash glue.
Paint something else, you always need an extra starburst or polkadot, or teardrop on a jewel-encrusted design.
Wait a few seconds until tacky, and press in the bling.
Voila!
That is French for "Bling is now Glued onto skin", or something like that.
I could be wrong about the French translation.
I learned my French in Garland, Texas almost 40 years ago.

Also, pearls are from the sea... don't forget about gluing on those to add to your design.

Happy Painting!

Thanks, Lisa. Do you have a brand name for that non-latex eyelash glue &/or where to buy it? So far, the few I found had latex. Good idea re: pearls!

Dear Pat:
There is a magical store up here, in the land of swirling snow and howling wolves, a place called "Shopper's Drug Mart". They have their own brand of beauty and make up tools called "Quo". They sell their own non-latex brand of eyelash glue.
Jody Rife, our fellow face painter, had the same question about six months ago. Jody lives in Ohio and found the eyelash glue. If I were you, I would PM Jody and ask her where she found the non-latex eyelash glue in the land where Canadians visit, envy and return home.
xoxo

Well, Lisa, I moved from the land of swirling snow(MA) & took my Siberian Husky (close cousin of the wolf but a LOT nicer) & moved to the land of sunny, blue skies every day (FL). Guess that's why they call it "the Sunshine State"! I'll take your advice & PM Jody. It's so nice to have all of you around on FPF...for help in many ways...some of which make me choke on my tea!!!! ( I'm still chuckling from Melody/FPL's solution for "the girls" sweating!)

I snorted wine out my nose when I read Perry Noia's response to Spelling Technicality; One or Two Words.
I love Perry.

Happy Hump Day
I use just a dollop of the tulips glitter glue on my gems.. As Fess mentions a q-tip to clean the area and then a dab of the glue. Tulip glue is a synthetic latex and its readily available in most craft stores...Happy gemming!!!

I use tattoo glue too, also!!!! I found this beautiful tool at Michaels than saves me time and storage un one step, its a pen than caries glue at one side and the silicon tip at the other to catch the gems, it comes with gems glue but I just take it out and clean very very well and then fill it with the tatto glue, so I just add the glue and then the gem ( in that way I dont loose the lue spot ) I found it at the gems section at michaels here is the pic.

That is cool! There is also Mehron add a gem, it comes in a tube that is a little bigger than eyelash glue. I like it. I can get it at our local costume shop, and you can find it on amazon, I think.

Thanks for the info everyone. Metina does carry the Mehron ADgem. I may try the Prosaide I have now on top of the face paint but will also try the ADgem. Pat

I just got the Mehron ADgem & it works great. I use the applicator & put a spot of glue where I want the gems. I pick up my gems w/ an applicator stick that I found in the bead section of Michael. I do not use excessively large gems & I try to put gems in the area of the face that doesn't "wrinkle" when the child lifts their eyebrows.

This is a pic of the "sticks". They have wax tips (but will melt like crazy in high temps).
