Hello from Richmond, VA
Hello everyone - I've been surfing around the forum for a few weeks and decided to introduce myself. I've decided to try my hand at painting after volunteering at several Autism Society & Autism Speaks events. I've already found some great advice and can't wait to see what else I can learn!!
Re: Hello from Richmond, VA
Welcome MissHeidi! If I may ask, do you have a family member with ASD or just work with kids with autism? Did you find many kids with tactile issues that were upset by the idea of being painted? I've thought about checking to see if I could paint some of the kids in school here with austim/Aspergers...thought it might help them 'connect' with other kids if they had a cute little painting...

Re: Hello from Richmond, VA
My oldest son has Aspergers. Honestly at the Autism walks (I work 2 every year) the majority of the kids who get painted are not on the spectrum (some certainly are though). Most of my "customers" on these days are the "teammates" of the ASD kids. The siblings, cousins, friends who have come out in support of Autism Awareness. Because like you said for some of these kids (but not all) the soft strokes of a paint brush would feel painful.
I would certainly contact the school, some of the kids may enjoy the face painting. Like I love to say: If you've met one kid with Autism, you've met one kid with Autism. They are all different!

Heidi,
Thanks for the info about Autism walks painting. Very helpful.
I have twins, boy and girl, and my daughter has Asperger's. It's been an adventure
...she is the sweetest girl though!
(don't know why the color/font is chopped up like that, sorry)

Oh! I keep forgetting to tell you I like the "snake face" you did! Never saw one like that, very clever!
