Greetings from a Syracuse professor, gamer, and now painter

Post by scottnicholson on Sun Aug 19, 2012 11:05 am

Greetings!

I'm Scott Nicholson, a professor from Syracuse University who got my start with face and body art at the 2012 East Coast Face Painting convention (if you were there, I was the fellow with the big beard). I focus mainly on grownups and young adults, with events at colleges and festivals. I am also a teacher at heart, and enjoy running workshops to introduce people to the fun of painting. I paint as Pied Piper Painting and am on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/piedpiperpainting

I used to be a librarian, and now teach people who want to work in the information fields. My research is on transformative play and games in informal learning environments, and you can find more on that on my Because Play Matters web site.

I've also been quite active in the modern board game community. I have one published board game and several others with publishers now. From 2005-2010, I was the host of a video series called Board Games with Scott, which led to me talking about board games with Mo Rocca on CBS

I've appreciated this forum as a lurker and a learner, and am hoping to be able to contribute as I learn and explore!

What Guild? I have been looking for a guild to join. I am in Schenectady, NY. I am looking forward to meeting other painters. There is another one in my area whom I have tried to reach out to with no luck.
