Brush holders
I have seen some comments on different brush holders and wondered if anyone has tried the water bottle ice tube tray to hold brushes. I found mine at Walmart for around two dollars. It has 24 tubes and holds my brushes very nicely and doesn't fall over. I found another one free at a flea market because the lady didn't know what it was and gave it to me, just to get rid of it. I used to have a large piece of foam that I cut some slits in, but it took up more room than my ice tuber.
Re: Brush holders
Nah... all mine go in a small acrylic vase, and as they are used and washed go in the holes around the edge of my water tub to dry.
Re: Brush holders
I looked high and low for the ice tube trays...couldn't find them around here! Couldn't find them online either. So I made my own out of some pvc water pipe and pipe glue. (pic in my gallery) The main investment was the darn cutter, otherwise it would have been super-cheap. I love it.
Re: Brush holders
I use the water bottle ice cube tray. I also cut slits in a car wash sponge. When one of my kids is on site helping, he/she washes the brushes for me and puts them in the sponge. When dry he/she moves them to the ice cube try. When I am alone, I only use the ice cube try. Here is a link to the Amazon site that still has it http://www.amazon.com/Tubes-Bottled-Beverages-HOLDS-TUBES/dp/B002DCCZA6/ref=pd_sbs_k_4 . I, also, got mine a Walmart but have not seen it this past year.
Re: Brush holders
Jbax, love the brush holder. I also like your designs. Is that a fat max or what that holds your paints?
Re: Brush holders
I also use the ice tube tray. I recently picked up two breast milk organizers for the freezer to try my brushes in. I know it sounds funny. Here's a link to them on Amazon.

The lid comes all the way off and there are six separate storage compartments. There is a bit of an opening in the bottom of each compartment, but as long as you're not moving it around, it shouldn't be a problem.

I use the ice cube tray you're tallking about & love it. They'll be back in Walmart around spring.

I also like using "funny" stuff for my kit.....
I use a baby bottle/accessory dishwasher basket to transport my sponges and spray bottle --http://tinyurl.com/spongebasket --which also works to hold brushes (handle down, stuck between the sponges)

Re: Brush holders
I have half clear deco pencil/office utensil holders with little crystal colored droplets in them to hold my brushes upright. I've tried everything under the sun and this way appeals to me for some reason...plus the kids think I keep my brushes in "diamonds", lol.
Re: Brush holders
I've tried a zillion different brush holders, and the ice tray is by far my favorite. My set up and pack up would be even easier if I could figure out how to transport them in there safely. (Tried a couple different ways, but so far, not happy with any of them. I think maybe I'm just too fussy about my brushes.)

I transport my brushes in a spaghetti container I bought at the Dollarama. It hold a whole pack of dry spaghetti noodles. I just make sure it goes in my case handles down. Lid comes off...and voila all brushes are clean and not bent.
Re: Brush holders
My husband built a three tiered holder for me that is black and has holes in each level for my brushes. The wind does not knock it over. I love it. It is made out of some type of plastic. I labeled the slots with my number of brushes #3, #4, #5, but not in that order in the order that I like to use them in. For small parties like birthdays I use the foam geckos. It works okay if it is an indoor party.

Jennifer I have that same Pail for my sponges haha.... Did you need a special cutter for pvc piper or can you use like a regular hack saw?

Re: Brush holders
I put my icecube tray holder in the bottom of my fatmax with the brushes in it. I brace it from moving around w/ my laptops, mesh bags with sponges & baby wipes. My brushes stay nice, safe & secure. I also keep my water bucket down there.
