My base package is 2 hours up to 20 kids. It's the same price if their are 5 kids at the party. I've been to some parties with 12 kids and only 6 got painted. It's not my fault they didn't want to get painted. If the parents were bothered by that then they should get painted(get their money's worth). So far, I haven't had any question me, but I would just tell them I can paint the adults, too Wink

I use to have a smaller package for the smaller parties of 10, but I would always end up painting 12 or 14. Rolling Eyes I decided I wanted to weed out the cheapies and drop my smaller package all together. "Up to 20 children" just sounds like you are getting a great deal anyway Razz

You know, the best way to weed out the minimalist cheapies is to announce a ppf fee for each child over the amount specified in your party package. Christina Davison does this and it works well for her. I've adopted that practice and amazingly, the moms are very ademant about who gets painted so they don't have to come out of pocket for the party due to extra guests.

Ok, so I have gotten enough birthday parties under my belt and feel comfortable enough with paints that I am thinking of adding glitter tattoos and hair tinsel to my arsenal. Should I charge extra for those things or make it just part of my 2hr party rate and do what I can in the time I am booked? I would like to offer it for bday parties (not just events) but don't want to get myself in a hole! Any thoughts???

You have to add extra because they take more time. Figure out how long they take you (for a party of 10 kids let's say) and price accordingly. I do glitter tattoos as an add on but usually only for corporate and bring my daughter with me to do it. I charge $25 an hour and give her $18.00 She makes $9.00 at the sandwich shop so it's pretty good money. I hired her friend too for a big event.

My biggest issue with that Denise is that most parents seem to not KNOW how many kids will attend lol. I usually just do a 2hr time slot and paint until time is up...I wonder if I should just have them book me for an extra hour for the tinseling if they want it.....? Then maybe just do how ever many girls I can, making the birthday girl first.

that's why it's good to set prices for a number range of kids (up to 10 kids, 11-20 kids, etc.) so you don't run the risk of some kids not getting painted or you going way over time so that you don't leave kids disappointed. I've changed the way my stuff is listed to being hourly, but list how many kids that will accommodate and I'm more tied to how many kids I promised than the clock.

That is a very good way to explain it Perry, thank you. I will just start telling the parent to "guesstimate" the best they can...I think I can do about 20-25 kids in 2hrs time. (I dont know if that is good or bad) If they don't ALL get full-face designs that is lol. It seems to end up being about half and half....cheeky/full-face. I really don't know how to gauge my time yet either since I am still pretty new. Maybe I should time myself a few times so I have some idea. I have always gotten every kid at the parties done so far...even if I have to get them to compromise to save time. I think I have been pretty lucky!

I've been timing myself and I need to increase the speed in which I paint. I get so caught up in adding swirls and tear drops that I can take a five minute design and increase it to 10 minutes adding "extras". I have Oktoberfest coming up, I think I'm going to limit the designs down to ten, five boys and five girls. I've seen some of the signs you all have made and they will become my inspiration.

I have asked friends what they would be willing to pay for a kids party, and i think about offering 50 for the first hour, up to 15 kids included. I will paint 15 kids for that rate, regardless if it takes me a bit longer. extra kids will be painted for an additional 10 per extra hour started.
This is a similar arrangement to the pricing i had when I was working as an interpreter. Abulk startig cost which includes travelling & setup, and then a fixed fee for extra time.
