Zombie Skin

Post by Psalmbook on Sun Sep 30, 2012 8:16 pm

I just got a new product called Zombie Skin & love it! It makes the best rips & tears in the skin. It can also be used to smooth out the edges of prosthetic, make pasties for body painting & smooth out the edge of underwear lines for body painting. I've only used it for zombie makeup so far... Metina should carry it in the FPF Shop:-)

sounds similar to liquid latex. Is it like that? I get my liquid latex at party City for 7 bucks a quart around Halloween. I use it for zombies, to create older looking wrinkled skin, to attach appliances, and my zippers.

Re: Zombie Skin

We were at a Horror Convention the last two days. We showed and demoed quite a bit of Zombie Skin. Cool stuff we've learned some tricks from the manufacturer. And have really figured what kinds of makeup covers the Zombie Skin well. It is latex and not for everyone, but it def has it's place in FX kits. Now to master it! I'm still trying to master 3D Gel! But I am body painting in just over a week and planning on really using lots of Zombie Skin. We've taken some great step by steps with it.

The con was fun made a great connection with Nicole Chilelli, she was on the current showing season of Face Off. We turned her on to some Silicone we love (because that we've mastered!) and Airstream airbrush makeup. What a talented sweetie. Fun event met the original "Jason Voorhees", some Buffy the Vampire cast, and some fun well known scream queens. Painted some of the kids funny girls still want pretty but with the gore tossed in. What's better than pretty gore. Bring on the busy Halloween season. We always have such fun gigs in October, we'll end the month at a Vampire Ball with a vampire kissing booth. Fun!

Dear Sweet Loretta:
I love how your avatar shows a picture of your set up... and there are two stars cropped off in the front. The cropped stars look like (to me) two attentive kitty cats sitting in front of your set up, attentively watching your event.

Where can you order this stuff from? Is it the same as the Mehron gel?

Zombie Skin is nothing like Mehron 3-D Gelatin Effects (or Kryolan or others).

There is a fair amount to learn inre to these and other FX products.

Zombie Skin is a a whipped latex. It has a latex like feel and accepts makeup like latex. Most makeups esp face paints go over this quite easy.
The Zombie Skin is white and is applied right from the container and dries very fast in thin layers.

Gelatin is just that. Like Knox Gelatin bought in a grocery store, excepting too they are very different. The two have different strengths. So while we do use Knox Gelatin in FX makeup we would not use it to make appliances or apply it directly to the skin to create effects. Knox type would not hold up. While Gel Effects also take most makeups fairly well there are indeed some tricks to learn to make the most of a paint job. One reason Gel like Silicone which too is a whole other beast comes in flesh, blood and clear colors. Gelatin Effects must be heated (and must not be overheated) and it is applied onto the skin warm/hot.

Both Zombie Skin and 3-D Gelatin Effects are great products but they are apples and oranges, each has it's place in an FX kit for different purposes and different reasons.

You have such a cute nose. Somehow or another it distracts me from the gore, LOL!

Awesome work with the Zombie Skin! I've been slowly building my FX stash and am ready to start working on it. Very inspiring!

Zombie Skin is not yet sold across the pond. Currently it is only available in the USA. At least that is what the maker of Zombie Skin told me.

Thank you Loretta for all the info. I hope to some day go to one of the Gore type cons (if I can handle it... I love painting gore, but am a bit squeamish:-).

I have Mehron liquid latex also & really like the whipped effect of the Zombie Skin.

Here's the site for it. I bought it from a competitors site, so I won't post the link (sorry). I want to respect Metina.

After the $10 shipping fee though, you'd be better off buying directly from the company. I paid $30.99 total with shipping by purchasing it through them.
