Looking for feedback on Palettes Use/Desire
Hiya,
I am considering stocking some of the DFX and Snaz palettes, but want to find a bit more about how often these are used and if they are reordered. If you use them, can you tell me about your use. Did you buy to test colors or do you reorder these when you use them up. Also, DFX is now offering the empty pallette cases with foam insert. Both 12 hole and 32 hole for 32 gram and 10 gram. What are your take/desire for these?
Here are the links to what is available for stocking. Please be brutally honest, just not brutal. LOL

Re: Looking for feedback on Palettes Use/Desire
I only buy for workshops - I give everyone in the beginner classe a Snaz Rainbow Palette. For myself, no.
Re: Looking for feedback on Palettes Use/Desire
I have the DFX pallets. My husband bought me the 12 essential palette and the neon/metallix palette for Christmas last year. I wanted them to try out DFX, as I had only ever used Snaz and Wolfe before.
I fell in love with DFX and bought the larger version of the essential colors based on my palette experience, but I still keep my palette around.
Loves:
1. I like the size of the pots, the seem bigger than the Wolfe sampler.
2. I take the palettes when I don't want to take my whole kit, like on Friday when I'm going to be doing just one face.
3. I had it at a festival and grabbed it to help kids choose a color. It's basically a mini-version of my set-up, so I showed it to them (closed) and asked them to pick a color.
4. I love the small brush that comes in it. Really love it.
5. The little pots are removable, perfect size as space is a premium and I don't use metallic and neon as much as the other colors, so the small pots are perfect.
Not so Much:
1. My plastic case for one of them broke pretty quickly, so I removed the little pots from the case. It would be nice if it were a little more durable.
I have not needed to replace any of the colors (in a year), but I will.
I imagine it would be perfect for taking to a convention. Hopefully I'll be able to report back about that one in May.

Re: Looking for feedback on Palettes Use/Desire
A follow-up. I have considered stocking them just to have a full pallette of 32 of the colors to show samples. I was at a Wolfe class and someone had a brand new one (must have been paradise)that looked very sharp and professional, but they also used up the yellow in one class. Yikes it went fast!
I also give out the Snaz rainbow palette at training classes(with a better brush and sponges though). I don't know what they were thinking with that brush.

Re: Looking for feedback on Palettes Use/Desire
I bought a 2 ml Snazaroo palette when I was was starting out so that I could see the colors etc but I don't use it now. I bought full sizes once I was ready for them.
I use a Wolfe mini "appetizer" palette in my working kit and I do buy their mini refills because I like the setup I have.
I also have a DFX mini palette of the pastels but I never use it and I probably won't order refills even if they are available.

ROI.... make more money!!
I do the same - they get a decent brush and some good sponges and we ceremonially toss the plastic brush.
I was GIVEN a Lucky Art (aka WB or DFX) sampler palette - I take it with me to conventions but find it annoying. The white pan keeps popping loose and there is not much in them!
I think lapstop style cases are somewhat attractive ... but I've been told the latches break, the inserts crack, they are actually bulky - if you have more than one, the plastic quality varies...
Re: Looking for feedback on Palettes Use/Desire
I started with a palette but quickly moved into the larger sizes and hand-picked the colors I needed. The only reason I would buy one would be if I wanted to sample all of the metalics or neons before buying in full size.
Re: Looking for feedback on Palettes Use/Desire
I don't think I'd purchase the palettes either. I've tried enough of those two brands to know which larger cakes I want to buy. I store my paints differently, so not really interested in the case either.
Re: Looking for feedback on Palettes Use/Desire
I started with a rainbow pallet and bought the tube of 18- 20 2mm colors to sample. I looked at all the FP pallets, but got a 12x11" water color pallet for under five bucks at Michaels art & craft store. It's compact, sturdy and I had a ball filling it with my fav colors ; ) My students love it and get water color pallets of their own, in various sizes. That way, my supplies DO fit on a TV tray, which is great for parties where space is at a premium. My pallet keeps evolving, switching out seasonal colors and since these photos were taken after a Spring & Summer gigs, I'd better get a more recent one.

Are you constantly refilling these Susan. Aren't they really shallow?

Re: Looking for feedback on Palettes Use/Desire
Actually, I dont keep refilling them. Once in awhile, I just carve off a bit from the original snaz cake and squish it into my pallet. The most popular colors are in the square center row, which is really deep - 18mls worth. The rounds are the size of 18ml & 2ml snaz cakes but shallow, which is nice, in that it doesn't take much to fill it with rainbow colors. It gobbled up most of the colors you sent me that arrived the next day ; )
I will get my kit out when raining slows, get a photo of my setup today and post it.

Re: Looking for feedback on Palettes Use/Desire

My setup is on a tablemate ll Tray, compact yet Professional looking. Mirrors & wipes are on top of my rolling art box next to it. My display posters are taped on windows, mirrors or leaning against furniture at restaurants or parties.

Re: Looking for feedback on Palettes Use/Desire
I have a wolfe make your own pallete (my preferred). I have a snaz that I have used for split cakes, I love snaz for splits and for white bases, and I have a paradise pallete that is my to go pallete for cheek art. It seems to work better for small designs. Also I use paradise red for my spidermans desing on darker complexions, it seems to be brighter that way.
Found a pair of Pallets that work for me!
I've noticed that my pallet seems to change with each season. The first big pallet was filled on an as needed basis and when I got new Snaz colors.
I knew I needed a bigger pallet and finally found it with two watercolor pallets at Michael's, both for under five bucks with coupons. Together, they are only about an inch larger than my big pallet and easier to pack up in the large zip lock baggie.
These pallets have deeper wells and hold alot of color, more than 18 ml. The lime green & yellow combo is exactly 18 ml. Many of my round rainbow cakes from the original large pallet that were shallow are really low in the new pallet wells.
Little crumbs of paint got mixed into others during the transfer but the first swipe of the sponge or brush will fix that.
