use a SHELF as a table??

Post by Bee Happy Design on Sat Oct 06, 2012 8:51 am

Ok tell me if I'm crazy. I have been looking... scouring for a better table. The one I use is on loan from my inlaws and while it works well it's not mine. It's getting scraped up from me using it and I don't want to ruin it for them. Also it's heavy! It's one of those 4 foot folding tables with adjustable height legs which I really like because I stand to paint and I like having the table high so little fingers stay out... I accidentally left it too low at my gig yesterday afternoon and the kids were all over that stuff. Rolling Eyes

Anyways I've seen the camping tables and actually saw one at Target but when I put it together it was still a bit low for my liking. I then saw a camping 3-tier shelf which was very cool! It had a collapsing table top with three shelves inside a mesh looking bag - open on one side... What a Face THAT would be so cool! It is taller and I could put my water and brushes on the lower shelf and it would be behind a curtain...

THEN I thought what about THIS:

http://www.homedepot.com/Storage-Organization-Shelves-Shelving-Systems-Free-Standing-Shelves/h_d1/N-5yc1vZc2mm/R-202520616/h_d2/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10053&langId=-1&storeId=10051&superSkuId=202858079

I would use it with only the first 3 tiers and it's CHEAP! I could also get some plain black fabric and velcro it around the side... and it comes apart for transport! We have a similar shelf in our basement and I checked that out. I think I might be on to something....

Anyone else ever had this thought or am I completely off my rocker? Twisted Evil

I believe Noella uses a set up like the above.
No, you are not off your rocker!

We have one that we take to street festivals but we use it as a shelf for our inflateables and other things we sell. It is very useful and gives you so much more room to put things on while taking up less space. Its great because when it is taken apart, the legs fit in the middle of the shelves so it's very compact and light.

Yeah, Noella has shelves like that. Her set-up is pretty neat - there is a thread with photos somewhere on here.

I don't take furniture - the client's provide it. Even the festivals (they have to provide shelter too.)

Hubby says it would be just as heavy as my present table (a Lifetime 4 footer) ... and more bulky. argh he's trying to talk me out of it. He should be - I shouldn't spend money on stuff I don't need. Maybe I'll wait till spring.

I do think there are definite pros to requiring clients to provide furniture but I guess I just prefer to bring my own cause you never know just what will be provided. Case in point - just yesterday I had a party and it was at a Montessori pre-school. They said they had a spot I could set up with a table and chairs... but they were the little short ones. No. And I like standing so far - but that chair is also a tad short for me. I guess I'm taller than I thought.
