Arton, great advice but methinks you should read the whole thread for a better idea of what is going on. Wink

Metina -
A had a white that arrived (mid summer I think). It looked ok, but I remember that when I first went to use it I noticed that the cake was more "moist" than usual and when I touched the "dry"-used-cake with my finger white came off.

That cake literally turned into "Toothpaste" after using it. It took FOREVER to dry and it was this goopy, almost stringy consistency.

I tossed it - without taking pictures.

I wonder if you are right and it has something to do with high temps while shipping?

I order several one strokes, a few single colors, and two rainbow cakes, all were TAG, only one was goopy. It was like that before I used it. Since I'm so new, I just thought it was what you get when you order their pearl. Come to think of if, I have a tag pearl white and it has alway been really really soft. I use it all the time and love the color but it's much different in consistancy than the Diamond FX metallics.

Re: New Tag Paints are Gooey

Post by Metina on Sat Nov 17, 2012 7:21 am

Hiya,

I emailed a few pics to TAG and got this response. I am now emailing them a link to this thread for further input. I am trying to isolate the colors that are a problem. We def. know it is Pearl Pink for sure.

"Hi Metina,
The current batch of pearl rose is quite soft, however.... I have never seen it like this!
You say it has arrived fine to you, just wondering if the people who are complaining live in warm areas?
We have had no complaints here, and the weather is really starting to heat up.
I would suggest to leave the lids off, do not freeze ...bad move, it will become gloopy straight away ( once it thaws)
Pearls do not need much water and when using a sponge, you only need to put light pressure on the swipe, I am sure you know this.
Some people leave their paints in the car, the paint will go gloopy, was the delivery van hot ??? who knows!
I never spray the paints, I leave the lids off at all times, on all of my paints. I can honestly say I have never had a problem with gloopy paint.
We will keep an eye out with the pearl rose and have a play around with the cake to see what can cause this.
Sorry! I can not be of much more help.
Kind regards
Gaenor"

When my paint feel gooey I spray 91% rubbing alcohol on it and leave them without tops overnight, it seems to dry it out.

I found the last batch of dfx white and black to get a little soft while painting...but not of the other colors...and all my metallics seam softer than the normal colors...but i don't add to much water to them...i like the way the older dfx black and white were..they were hard and never got mushy. and they made really clean lines..

well to add to this thread again. its june 2013 and wolf black and white, and dfx black and white are getting gooey...even with the first use..and indoors...
I was told that they changed their formula not using bees wax any more...but parrifin wax...maybe they are not putting enough parrifin wax in the new formula...just my thoughts

I was told that it was due to allergies from the bees wax...can't remember who I heard it from...but all of the dfx used to be very hard..and you could not even cut the yellow...and now it cuts like butter...all of them do...even the wolfe..

the ones that are gooey before you even use them are fab shimmery one....Beautiful colors but terrible consistency. I never put the lids on my paints...for years.....but they are all in a container.

There must be some humidity issues in storage. I got some TAG Light Green that was like toothpaste, basically had to scoop it out with a butter knife to repot it...but last time I went to the original pot to use it in a split, it was fine. We have low humidity here in Utah and I think it just finally dried out.

I'm having goop issues with DFX white and black - my splits and rainbows have all been pretty good - some are soft, some rock hard, but not goopy like my DFX white/black when I wet them for use. I store my paints unlidded and open to breathe, but need to firm these up. Best way? Freezer? 100 degree oven method? 91% iso alcohol spritz? Any takers? Smile

If they haven't changed their formulation, then why after all these years of using this product is it becoming un-useable? It has been brought to their attention and they don't seem to want to rectify the issue. It is clear that the black and white is their main sellers.
Has anyone found a black and white that is good like this used to be? I tried Cameleon, the rest of the paints are good but the darn black and white isn't like wolfes'

I'm thinking of trying out the new Global FX line for white and black - I tried Tag's white for bases and didn't dig it.

I use DFX and did notice it being goopier, especially if I spray my cakes. I've been trying out chameleon velvet black and will try the white next. It is a softer paint overall and requires much less water, but it has been great for line work once I figured out the consistency. They have A few different blacks to choose from but the velvet black is the closest to DFX and it works for me. I've been also using the star blends for bases instead of DFX and I really like it, very quick and a soft base.

^^ Good to know, am ready to try out alternatives to DFX since this is the third cake set that are gooey with water spray. I am going to try the Global line as well, like what I'm hearing about that line.

let us know how you like the global line...I didn't care for the black of cameleon, I guess I want a black paint that glides on...cameleon for me was once it dried it looked chalky...and the lines cracked when you took the picture, it looked terrible. For over all colors it is nice...JUST NOT for main line work...what will we ever do. I am excited for some reason t hear the results from users about the global products.

I don't care for Global black - it looks more like charcoal grey, but I hear that they are working on improving that. The white and the colors, however, are amazing!

Yeah tag paints tend to melt and get a bit gooy in the sun. Most of all the neons, even if they have lids on. I always try to have shade for myself and my paints if it's a hot sunny day.
