Gargoyle? HELP!?

Post by laurapleurodon on Tue Oct 09, 2012 7:18 pm

Ok, I really have absolutely no idea what I'm doing lol. Basically, I want to be Rochelle Goyle for Halloween (she is the gargoyle character from Monster High):

I have never used any sort of quality skin paint before, so if you guys could pleeeease make some recommendations that aren't expensive (and tell me where I might find them) it would be such a big help. Also, any tips/techniques/tutorials that you think might be helpful? I was thinking maybe a regular sponge would be good to get the stone texture, but I guess that probably depends on the consistency of the paint I end up using. I've only ever played around with cheap Wal-Mart Halloween paint before (which I definitely don't want to use this time around) and I know the sponge idea would work for something with a creamy consistency like that, but aren't better quality skin paints usually more of a cakey consistency?
Can anybody help me? =]

You can buy quality face paint right here in the "Face Paint Forum SHOP"
...I couldn't find it at first, but it is on the homepage of the forum...there is a little box that says "Face Paint Forum Shop" (kind of a rainbow box underneath the 'Halloween challenge' box) click on that and you will get into the "shop" that has the paint and painting supplies. All the paint Metina sells are quality paints, she has very reasonable shipping costs AND she ships it out FAST. I made an order on a weekend and it was to my house by Thursday...and that was ALL way across the US! (from Washington DC to Oregon!)

Happy painting! bounce

Many pro face paints are cakey, but soften and become creamy/liquid (depending on how much you dilute them) when you add water.

I'd recommend the Forum shop as Valerie suggested, but if you don't want to go the order-online route, you should be able to find Snazaroo (a decent, safe brand in cake form) at Michaels and other places locally. Snaz works fine for sponged bases (don't add much water for that technique), and blends very well too.

Do post your results - I'd love to see them. Good luck!

Ah thanks a bunch you guys!
I don't know if I will have time to order online/wait for it to get here.

Do you know about how much Snazaroo costs?

Your bio doesn't say where you are, but if there is a Michael's craft store near you I think I've seen kits (maybe 8 colors and certainly waaay more than enough to paint one face) for about $10-12. Individual colours are more like $8 each

Or if you are in Grande Prairie, Alberta at Michael's the 18ml cakes of regular colours are $13.99 + GST which is total rip off. I can order from Toronto for $10.99!

Don't Snaz paints originate in Britain? Maybe that is why they are cheaper there??

I have picked up Snaz while in the UK for that very reason!

It is amazing that a product that sells RETAIL for GBP 2.99 ($4.70 CAD) ends up at $13.99 CAD.

Trudeau might be PM, again... Wink

For the price of the face paints you could hire a professional face painter to do your Halloween makeup.

I agree with Sweet Loretta, what area are you in? Maybe you could just find a painter to do your face... Very Happy
