Post by aprilmoonflower on Mon Oct 19, 2009 12:24 pm

I have the box Metina here on the forum shoppe, but I need something with more holes..any great ideas? What's your favorite brush holder? I was looking at the one on Silly farm that is round or a wooden one. Suggestions? Maybe i should just hit up Michaels?

Hit Michael's and the dollar stores... there are lots of cheap options.

I just stick all mine in a vase, and then in to the holes around the rim of my water tub to dry.

Lady Jayde had a wonderful idea. It looks like a acrylic vase with black sand in it. This way you fit in loads of brushes and no need to worry about the size of the hole.

But, do you really need that many brushes on the job? At the end of the day, is it worth practicing more making fewer brushes do what you need so you aren't dealing with 20 brushes on a job? It really can take up a lot of time, when seconds can count. If I really had to, I could do everything with a #5 round synthetic for dots and everything else with a #4 round sable and a couple of #12's and 3/4 or 1" flats for the splits.

But I love all my effects brushes too, but can't be tethered to them.

No ice tube trays in the greater indianapolis area (believe me, I looked). So I made mine out of PVC and PVC glue. Easy Peasy, made-to order. (Directions and pic in "Look what I Made" post)

The ice tube (upright one) is available online and at Amazon. Like Shannon, I get to clean everything between each customer, so I have a lot of brushes. It works best for me. If I come across any ice tube trays locally, I can pick them up and let you know.

Walmart in the household department - finally got help and found one on the bottom shelf. Its great to hold multiple brushes and I put them in a box just about an inch taller than the brushes to protect them in the bottom of my rolling art box with my plastic placemat arched over it, so its a quick brush setup and safe stow away for travel ; )
I use lots of brush sizes dedicated to each particular color marked on the front of the ice tube tray so my water stays clean thru the gig. I wash my brushes when I get home because I dont have time to clean each brush or change out my water to keep it clean during gigs. Having lots of brushes is a great time saver.
I never knew how many brushes I had untill my art box fell off the chair last night as I was setting up for a class and dumped all the brushes across the floor ; P
Cant post a photo to the forum for the past two days but click on my screename for all my posts and the photo of my setup with the ice tube tray of brushes will come up; )

April, Walmart here has the trays for either $2.94 or $3.94...can't remember which. If you like, I can pick one up for you (and whoever) and mail it to ya.

I use a brush easel. I find the fewer brushes the better.

I love my brush "ice TUBE tray." Our Wal-mart does not carry them anymore either. So, I bought a bunch on line to give as prizes in my classes. But nothing as cheap as what Wal-mart had them for.

You can see a photo of one by going to

Click on the DOWNLOAD 10 PAGES FOR FREE link - of the book in the middle - and go to page 3. It is the long white gizmo

You can go to their website to see a list of who is SUPPOSED to be selling them http://www.icetubes.com/new/buy.asp

Lilly, Wal Marts here in this area (Maryland/Va) still carry those Ice cube trays. I saw one just a couple of days ago.

Lilly & Jenny, the frustrating thing about Walmart is nowadays they dont restock as often as they used to years ago, so something they usually carry can be sold out for weeks at a time.
Last winter, it took some searching with a store rep but I finally found the ice tube tray, on the bottom shelf in the kitchenwares. That tray is great for speed in fast brush retrevial and return. I've gotten so used to it, sometimes I can grab the appropriate brush with the needed color without looking ; )
I've been searching for marykate & ashley cosmetic glitter and still cant find it - must be a great selling product at walmart.
