Step by step FX Zombie or just wounds and such?

Post by colormyworld on Tue Oct 20, 2009 3:35 am

Are there any easy step by step zombie tutorials? Using some sort of fx? If not what is needed? And how to do it? I feel like I need to be walked through it. THings I have that I heard work: hair gel, toilet paper, theater blood (Ben Nye), scar wax, and paint. Do I need the creme paints for fx, though (like the wheels)? Is spirit gum, liquid latex, etc...necessary? And even if I have the right things...how to use them? I'm looking for a fairly fast and easy approach that makes an impact (not fake looking like some videos I've looked at, or expensive). I don't know where to start bc I learn best when someone shows me and walks me through. Which videos are the best? I browsed through some on Youtube, but don't know which approach would be best for a beginner... Thank you so much!!!

I've got a Zombie StepByStep on my blog. And there is a Latex Effect StepByStep too.

You can do the SFX without adhesives or latex, but they hold up better if you have them. The same goes for the cream/oil/grease based makeup..... You can do amazing zombies with regular water based makeup, but the cream/oil/grease based will hold up better if the zombie is going to be very active and/or under hot lights to where they will get really hot and sweaty..
The second photo is a quick SFX of a rotting flesh or flesh eating bacteria that was done on the fly with water based makeup, gel, and toilet paper.
Here is a photo of a zombie I did complete with SFX....It was all done quickly with water based makeup and no adhesives or latex (didn't have my moulage/SFX stuff with me).

Shannon, great zombie! Thanks!

And modernmagik....SWEET!!!!!! If you don't mind would you let me know what steps you took to do that look though? I tried some hair gel/toilet paper/ paint/fake blood combo and came up, well, pretty bad.

So I knew I had to actually attempt the zombie at some point, rather than just thinking about it, looking up photos, asking questions, basically doing everything BUT paint it. So here is my attempt. I based it off Shannon's, but not exactly. I used mostly powder (Starblend white and some eyeshadows), as well as DFX black and Ben Nye liquid blood (mint flavored lol). Oh but I only did half zombie. The other half I tried out a sparkly non-vampire like in Twilight.

I don't know how I did with either one, but I think it's acceptable for a first try. However, I need me some PRACTICE before Halloween!
