A lot of FX stuff can be substituted with other things, for instance eyelash glue instead of liquid latex... You can use oatmeal or cereal for wounds:

That was done with eyelash glue, oats, face paint and fake blood.

I haven't found a substitute for my ben nye scar wax yet though, I love the stuff... Unfortunately it melts far too easily... I did this with it, but I had to keep retouching it because the neck gets too warm...

There are indeed lots of easy FX effects, but there is also a ton, and I mean a ton of FX "stuff" to learn to really do special effects makeup justice. Many products require patch testing, so be sure to do that. Even Oscar winning MUAs have horror stories using basic products. So take heed and do not assume everyone can wear every product. Do your homework then go have fun.

I have a zombie tutorial over on YouTube using just paint, it's pretty easy but still looks scary.

I agree that Ashlea/Mimicks is awesome!!! I love her tutorials. Here is my first zombie using her tutorial. I never thought I would enjoy painting zombies but turns out it was quite fun! And my husband really got into it...

wow, modernmagik that meat pic is amazing. I'm definitely going to be trying to mimic that! I usually use liquid latex and oil based paints with some blood gel, but I think I could improve heaps by trying your method. If I can get to something similar to that with the tools you used, then my whole process for zombies could improve greatly. Amazing!
