Post by Kris5115 on Thu Oct 25, 2012 1:15 pm

Since today is the last Thursday in October, I have been reflecting on the last Thursday in October 3 years ago when I broke my neck. It was a cold drizzly day, similar to today, and I was at the bus stop with my kids in the morning and was helping my neighbor with her garage door when I fell and landed badly on my neck, elbow and head. I broke my C7 bone in my neck, had a bunch of stitches on my elbow and a minor concussion. It is still hard to think about that time. But I am thankful that I'm still walking, breathing, painting, living.

Wow, you are so fortunate!! I have never known anyone with a broken neck who was able to continue life in a relatively normal way!

I'm sorry you had to go through something so frightening and dangerous - and very, very glad you recovered so beautifully! Celebrate on the anniversary, that someone, somewhere was definitely watching out for you. Smile

Well I opted to work my day job from home today and treated myself to 7 different kinds of cheese (my favorite food!): Monterey Jack, Cheddar, Asadero, Queso, Brie, Provolone and Cottage. Not all at once or together, mind you. But throughout the day.

Now off to put drops in the eyes of my oldest who has pink eye. Life goes on. And life is good.

Kris--what an amazing story! I hope that you don't suffer too much pain still!

What a great way to celebrate the day--do something you love (or eat)

Thanks everyone! I am very thankful - especially that there wasn't spinal cord damage. There was a lot of pain for about 6 months and then it slowly faded. Now I don't have really any pain but get more headaches and neck stiffness. For me, the best thing that helps is massage therapy, and I'm definitely due for a session!

OMG is all I could think when I read this. I can't believe either that you survived this without major damage. It's really a day to celebrate in a good way then! Happy Anniversary!

Thanks Kammy for the offer! I'm away scrap-booking this weekend and there is a massage therapist coming to give some chair massages. I can hardly wait!

Even with the cheese, yesterday was a rather solemn day for me. It was a reminder of such a hard, painful, difficult, awful, period in my life that I don't even like to think about it. But at the same time, God was so faithful to me and my family and gave me strength when I felt like I couldn't go on. I also know that there are so many who have had to deal with much more than I have. I feel so blessed to be where I am today. :-)

Well today is the actual 3 year anniversary date of when I broke my neck - Oct 29, 2009. I had a nice massage this weekend which has helped with my ongoing stiffness/tightness. I wrote a blog while I was recovering and plan to update it later today - once I figure out what to write. :-) If anyone is interested in reading it, it is "Team Kristine" on Facebook.

I made it through my "anniversary" with no problems only to stub my pinky toe badly yesterday - probably broke it. bummer! It was a busy day and I was rushing and just really banged it on the couch leg. argh. I guess I'll just have to be glad it is better than a broken neck.
