First Ever gig!

Post by Chatterbox jp on Sun Oct 28, 2012 9:55 am

Hi all, just wanted to tell you about my first event. A friend asked me to face paint at his kindergarten halloween party. I only paint on me and my daughter so I was nervous but said ok. Finished yesterday. 60 kids, 2.5 hours. I did over 50 faces, mostly little cheek art butterflies and hearts etc but a few scars for staff (pinched from Lisa Joy Young's facebook channel), spiderman for the owners wife!, full face horror pumpkin for the owner, bear for me.......
Very tired but everyone seemed happy. I hate dolphins!!!!! can't get them looking right but never mind, I'll keep practicing.
Didn't charge nearly enough (or so I'm told) but it was my first time so no confidence. Still great day! Very Happy

Woohoo! Go you! Smile Do you have a pic of one of your disappointing dolphins? There are some tricks to quick dolphins that can solve most problems. Sorry if you know all of this already.

1. The "beak" or nose is at the bottom of the head, not in the middle.
2. The eye is located just behind the back of the mouth, which is also much lower than we instinctively want to put it.
3. The two side fins are also low on the body and there is no back fin.
4. The body really is just a ginormous teardrop.

Sorry Kara no pics. 1 I had no time! 2 I didnt ask permission of those pics I did take to post them on the web.
Thanks for the hints. I'll try them later.
One problem I have is I always just see the mistakes I made or where the line work doesn't flow like you guys all seem able to do Sad Everyone else seems happy but then its not "japanese" to complain or look unhappy so its often difficult to tell.
One of the nice parts was that some of the girls had one design then later came back for another! cheers
I have tried to post 2 pics. but only managed to put them in my gallery on the forum. They are of my pratice. One is the bear face I had while doing the painting and the other is my first try at the scary pumpkin I did for the owner.

Are you on an iPad? I can't get the "copy" function to work for the gallery links on my iPad, although I can on my PC. Very frustrating.

Based on your bear, skull, scary pumpkin and the rest being awesome, I can't imagine your dolphins are that terrible. Smile We're all our own worst critics. It's always a good sign when people come back for more.

Thanks Kara. i didn't trust my instincts. I had seen a dolphin tutorial on youtube which was great but on the day got nervous and wasn't sure of the design so copied one from a Klutz book I have (should have been warned by the name . Where I'm from a "Klutz" is a clumsy person!! affraid I was asked for a unicorn a couple of times as well but decided I didn't like the one in the same book so checked my ipad for an old wolfe bros. pic I had practiced and copied that sunny .) Any way, bad picture to copy from so not a shock that I was unhappy with the result.
