Help me not to look like a hag!!

Post by suze_cook on Sun Oct 28, 2012 2:12 pm

Hi, I'm brand new to the forum and after many web searches I'm hoping someone here can help me. Every time I try to paint my face white or any color actually, it's so cakey it makes me look like I have horrible wrinkles and it seems to emphasize every flaw. Can someone tell me the best brand and the best application procedure to cover my face but not look like an old hag?

What are you using? Are you old or young? Do you already have wrinkles or dry skin? What application technique are you using? Little more info would be helpful.

I've only ever used the Halloween makeup you get at Party City or the like. I'm 45, don't look old for my age, have pretty good skin but yes there are some laugh lines, etc. I've tried adding water or moisturizer, but neither work, it just looks harsh. I figured the brand/product must be important but I don't know whats the best to use?

Like Criss said, something flexible like Snaz or Paradise is probably the best sponged base. Here's a photo of Starblend White base. My skin was dry that night so I rubbed a couple of drops of glycerine in my hands and lightly coated my face. It's very comfortable and sweatproof. (I'm 47)

Ditto on what the others said. You are probably using a grease makeup. You can find Snaz at Michael's and Hobby Lobby. Use a very little water to work it into a creamy texture and pat it on with a sponge in a stippling motion. Moisturizing does help as well. Beware of Tulip body paints as most of the colors stain badly.

Thanks. I have a small forehead so the triangle eyes gave me more room for flowers. I'm fighting vintage skin AND a three-head instead of a forehead. Smile

Best line of the day! That's hillarious! I love it!

Martha, I soooo wish I knew about Tulip paint staining ahead of time. Last year My son was darth maul for Halloween, and practically Christmas by the time the red finally came out. What's worse is that is says non-staining on the package Mad

BTW, the other problem...like some others mentioned in other threads...I have large pores and everytime I painted myself in dark colors, I had little dots of dark color in my face when you looked up close (it looked like millions of little blackheads) so I pretty much stopped painting myself. Then, I found this FABULOUS product, not expensive..and it's REALLY making my pores smaller, like it says it does (imagine that? a product that does what it says?). Ayone with large pores should try it. It's L'Oreal "NEW go 360 Clean" Deep Facial Cleanser. I LOVE it. It says on the back "Deeply cleans skin and unclogs - pore by pore. Removes all traces of oil, dirt, and makeup. Pores look visibly smaller". and it has this neat little soft rubber scrubbing thing (I pulled it out in the pic), that fits right into the bottle front. I used it and saw big difference even after 2 wks and now my skin looks yrs younger after a mth. (that's me in my Avatar and I'm 61, just took this last weekend)

Nice. I've painted people that I worried about that....thinking in my head "I hope you are polka-dotted tomorrow!" I'll have to try some of the cleanser for hubby and son.

I have always used a paste of baking soda and water and GENTLY scrubbed my orange or green colored blackheads off my nose from face painting. I am going to give the L'Oreal 360 a try.
Thank you for the suggestion.

Thank you all so much for the helpful advice!!! I'm so glad I found this forum. I'll try the pore stuff as well as the products. I had found a site with Paradise, Wolfe, Mehron, and some others but wasn't sure which was best.

It's not easy when you develop "vintage skin"!!

I second Kammy's comment, have you looked at the forum shop? Metina has all the best paints right here and the shipping is unbelievably fast!
