What type of vinyl?

Post by lorikenh on Mon Oct 29, 2012 9:10 am

What type of vinyl does everyone use? And could you be specific with brand and model like Oracal 641 or Avery 600. I have Oracal 631. Just curious what everyone uses. Thanks

Theres another thread within this section where the pros and cons of the different vinyls were discussed. It wasn't too long ago so it shouldn't be that hard to find.

i tried the 631, it seems much thinner and I dont think it sticks as well to the skin. the 651 seems (sturdier) because its a heavier mill. The aweful adhesive tape I use(d) seems to peal away easier from the 631 though but then it pulled away from the skin.

I tried both ORcals. started with 651 and changed to 631.

I use Large stencils that can cover the entire back at times with airbrushing. I also like it more for the same reason for when a child wants their tattoo on their hand and it is a small surface.

The 631 is sooooooooooooooooo much more bendable and flexes with the body more. Therefore It adheres better to the small hand and wrap all the way around shoulder blade. I have not noticed any changes in how crisp the lines are. Both the same.

working with both for over a year, I highly recomend the 631 over the 651. Hands down.

p.s. it's cheaper

I use Oracle 641. It works great, but I haven't tried anything else to compare.

Have you tried Magic Cover contact paper? I know it sounds crazy, but I have used it for 3 years now and it works great if you get the right kind. I usually use the wood grained because it is easier to see the design against the dark pattern. The prints look cool, but they are a pain when trying to pick your designs clean and also are hard to see the design when you are glittering them up. I have found that it is just the right stickiness to stick to the skin, but does not leave a film. Comes off easily, unless they have hair, but no more so than anything else. It is very flexible AND cheap! I can get it at Dollar General for about $3 to $4 a 30" x 10" roll.
The only problem I have had lately is they have changed the product and sometimes you get a roll that does not stick to its backing and is then hard to cut.
Contact paper used to work well for this, but they have changed there formula and it does not stick to its backing well either when cutting.
I have had very few people question me about my stencil having a wood grained stencil. When they do, I just tell them I cut them myself, and they look very incredible at all the hard work I do to make them happy! LOL!
Hear's keeping my fingers crossed I am not stepping over a line using this product on skin. Embarassed
