could I get some opinions?

Post by Perry Noia on Sat Oct 24, 2009 8:30 pm

I just changed the colour scheme on my website and I would like some opinions on the readability of the text. I made the colours much richer (less pastel) and I want to make sure that the text is still easy to read. It looks good on my computer, but I have a large, flat screen monitor, so it might look different for others.

The text is easy to read, but I don't think it look professional with the add for "get your own free homepage" at the top.

For me at this point, the one little bar that says that is worth not paying a penny for the site. When I get more established, I'll pay the money not to have that, but at least there are no ads for businesses other than local ones that I have put there myself.

Hi Perry! As a techie, I can tell you how to get rid of the bar at the top Very Happy

If you have a template website:
When you log in, click the little pencil next to your homepage, then go to the "Template" tab at the top. When you get there, click the "advanced" button. Then, add the code:

3!-- Freewebs Sticker --3
3script language="Javascript" src="http://images.freewebs.com/JS/Freebar/bar_stretchblack.js"3
3/script3

MAKE SURE TO REPLACE ALL THE "3"s WITH THE POINTY CARROT BRACKETS! (< or >)
I don't mean to yell, but that step is REALLY important, because the code will not work if you do not do that Rolling Eyes

Then, click, "Save Design" Smile

If you have an HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) website:
Click the pencil next to your homepage, and add the above code at the top and save. Do it on ALL your pages.

If you experience difficulties or if it doesn't work, feel free to private message me! Hope this helped! Very Happy

As someone who does have problems with reading (due to chronic brain difficulties) your site was really easy to read.

As a side note. I LOVE the picture in upcoming appearances where you have your own shield and are fighting the knight. Too Cute. So much personality. clown

yeah, I know I can switch it to a little box in a top or bottom corner instead of the bar, it's just not something I'm that worried about really.

very cute page! (easy to read too.)

question: on your facepainting gallery-- what do the A and B labels mean? I couldn't find what they meant anywhere, though that doesn't mean it wasn't there. I could just have missed it...

it's not posted on there... they are different price levels for pay per face. Doesn't matter for parties and didn't seem terribly important to put it on the website.

Perry

The site is a good starting point but clearly there are differences of opinion even withing the narrow community here so what appeals to one potential customer won't to another either.

Personally I DO think it is important not to use free space ... not only because of the ads but having an obviosuly free web address shouts volumes. In some people's minds it will have a negative effect and it will be harder to build credibility, longevity an trust when there is a cloud of 'free' and 'cheap' around the site. The problem is that people it affects that way won't say anything, they'll just leave.

Being found by search engines aside ... another big problem with relying on a subdomain is that you have no contol over the future. Suppose you hand out 10,000 pieces of promotion material with your url on and then the free site decides to call it a day. Your entire past marketing is now wasted.People may click, find the site dead and gone and decide you've given up, and go elsewhere.

I'd have thought that $7 a year was worth avoiding all that.

Good luck....

John
