Cracking paint?

Post by donwyn on Sun Nov 04, 2012 4:58 pm

Has anyone experienced their paint cracking before?

I seem to have problems with my White Diamond fx, which I am using as I always have done, when it dries it is cracking. Wondered if anyone had experienced this before - not sure if I just have a duff cake???

I have gotten cracks in cakes before. Doesn't seem to affect the paint too much. Happens more with regular colors than pearls but it isn't restricted to DFX. A few drops of glycerin in your spray bottle may help if it's bugging you.

Wait - cracking on your skin or cracking inside the pot?
Cracking on the skin = yucky.
Cracking in the pot = no biggie.

If you mean your teardrops and line work it's that your paint is too thick when you apply it. Add more water.

Cracking in the pot is not a problem... just a humidy issue.

Wow - I love this forum, how helpful everyone is.

It is cracking on the skin when it dries I have never had this problem before. Denise - thanks, I will try more water, just puzzled because I have been using it for line work, details and the base for my quick bunny design for over a year and it's never gone like this before.

It's definitely an application issue. Think thin when using professional makeup. I know that when I arranged for my son's elementary to use the Snaz teasers many of the volunteers (who were used to using palmers) had a hard time understanding that they only needed a thin milk consistence and they figured out out to over load their brushes (and ruin the makeup) and apply it thick like palmers...surprise surprise when it too cracked just like Palmers. Less is definitely more in this regard, especially if you're doing a base. I use a glycerin rich makeup like Paradise, Kryolan for bases so that the wear on the face is still fluid, DFX, Wolfe and TAG tend to tighten as it dries so I only use it for linework.
