Snazaroo cracking paints

Post by LaTrovatora on Mon Nov 05, 2012 3:58 pm

Hello everybody,
I have bought some snazaroo paints, I am not in love with them, and I made some split cakes in order to use them more, but the paint cracked, and it cracks every time I use them, I tried to fix them with the water, but it cracks again, can you give me any suggestion/advise please?
I will attached some pics.... thank you very much in advance !!!

I freeze snaz before i cut it up, then i just spray spray spray when i set up so the top of the cake gets very very moist and thus more workable. Unfortunately I have never had cracking paint (and i only use snazz) so Im not much help Sad maybe someone else has some expertise!

I have had cracked snaz before but when I worked it up with a good amount of water it was fine. After it dried out no more cracks. Course it was warm and humid here so the paint kept working itself to a gooey blob state anyways.

I'm not sure how Snaz hold up with additional Glycerine since I don't use it in my kit, but I know some painters add drops of it to their paints that start to crumble. It might be worth a try. Perry and Shannon are two authorities on working with Snaz...possibly you could PM them?

When I combined my snaz (not to make splits) just to consolidate, I crushed them up when dry, sprayed them with water, microwaved them for about 5 seconds and then mushed them down with a spoon... worked great! Nice and smooth and paint just like new Smile hope that helps!

microwaving can work, glycerin might work...

But as your sponging example shows, the cracking doesn't affect the usability of the paints despite cracking. Snazaroo gets dry and crumbly the more you use it, always. Given a month or so, even if you haven't made splits with them, it is likely to crack like that. Get it nice and wet while working with it and really mush your sponge into it when you are working with it.

Snas is a lot drier than other brands. I just press all the crumbs together, add some water and let it dry. Still works.

Welcome to Snaz. Sad
I did the microwave thing with my red snaz that crumbled and was making my whole kit turn red. I crumbled it all, added some drops of water, microwaved it until it made a paste. Then, I smoothed the paste with a butter knife and let it dry for a day. It works the same, though the texture of the cake has changed a bit. I really hate working with Snaz, but I love the red for Spiderman.

Wow, ok, I will try to do the water thing, also because here in Italy they don't sell glycerin without a medical order or something like that.
Excuse me if I ask you again but, how do you microwave it? do you put it on a plate or just like this directly on the microwave? I never had the need to microwave any paint...
Oh boy that's why I prefer to work with the other brands like DFX or TAG they are creamier and easier to work with and to paint.....
Thank you very much for your suggestions !!! I really appreciated Smile)

I just broke it into pieces in the container it came in and then microwaved it (5 sec) with spritz of water, then with spoon or butter knife push it down until smooth. I actually love snaz for bases, so much smoother on the skin.
