Looking for a fabulous very dark purple

Post by Willoughby on Sun Nov 18, 2012 10:52 am

OK, so I have the TAG regular purple and DFX Metallic Violet. I adore them both, but I'm looking for a really lovely and very dark purple that I can use instead of black, for outlining. Does anyone have any recommendations? TIA! Smile

MAC is made by Kryolan.
MAC Eggplant is a near mid-night purple.

Kryolan has a Dark Purple #099 that I have never used, but appears to be almost as dark as MAC Eggplant.

The newest, dark colors by Wolfe are satisfyingly deep and saturated in color: the Dark Blue, Dark Raspberry. I have not purchased the deepest green color, YET!

I am not good enough to use Snazaroo for line work.
I believe Shannon Fennell and Perry Noia are excellent at using Snaz.

The darkest Snaz purple isn't all that dark really.

Makeup
Artist's
Cosmetics

MAC

MAC is made in the wilds of Canada. It is made in between the swirling snow and howling wolves that roam the streets of Toronto.

They made a generous donation of their face and body paints to SickKids' Hospital.
They had to face the roving bands of wolves and the gusting snow to deliver it to us... in October.

BTW, I had NO idea that MAC made face and body paint!

It is available at head office only.
With my MACPro discount, it is still very expensive.

It works the same as Kryolan.
Same consistency.
I get Kryolan from Hiscott's on Yonge, south of College on the east side, across from the College Park subway station. The service is extremely brusque. I feel that us customers get in the way of their business. They treat everyone the same way, so I no longer feel like I need to avoid them because they are picking on ME. They pick on EVERYBODY.

MAC was Canadian... they were bought by Estee Lauder and their customer service and guarantees went in the proverbial crapper.

And Fesspenter is 100% correct, their Chromacakes are made for them by Kryolan. Available to pro members only. I can order online if I want them, but I buy Kryolan which is less $ and the same thing.

If you want to impress the clients who are willing to pay high fees use the MAC. Otherwise, stick to Kryolan.

WARNING:
DO NOT purchase the MAC Coral Chromacake.
I tried it out and it stained more than Wolfe Black.
We did a body painting with MAC Coral.
The model was stained pink for five days.

I couldn't believe it, so I tested it on my arm.
I soaked it with olive oil.
I used rubbing alcohol, both 70% and 90%.
I used a paste of baking soda and Cetaphil soap, (my go-to face scrub when I paint my face and I have orange or green black-heads due to face paint).

NADA!

It stained my arm for SIX days.
Even Wolfe black goes away after a day or two.

I feel for the poor model who scrubbed herself raw, and still could not get the pink paint off for five days. I hope that she did not have to avoid any jobs because of the paint that John Sheehy and I applied. (Well, I applied it, under John's direction).

Happy painting!

Good to know... models not being able to work due to staining is not good.

is there a website for macpro? I was trying to get info on their airbrush body paint makeup since Kryolan seems to have pulled their line or something, but seems to be no place to order it. The colors on the shelf at MAC are gorgeous, and my local store carries all the bright colors, but the people that work at the store don;t know anything about the product, and when I tried asking questions they resported to trying to read the package- BUT the type on the package was so small, not one of us in the store could make out anything it said....

The MAC Pro website is not very satisfying to go onto for airbrush body paint, or the Chromacake face/body paint.

Dean, do you have an iPhone? When my husband cannot read the tiny, fine print on packages, he takes a photo of it with his iPhone and then enlarges it so he can see it.

I think the word "sucks" is much more succinct than
"not very satisfying".

I usually make a short story long,
or,
why use one word when I can use twelve words.

I was worried that the Forum would change my verbiage.
I did not think I had a potty mouth, until one of my unacceptable epithets was changed from "Oh, sh#t" to "Oh, schnitzel". Cracked me up!

Now, I find I use Oh Schnitzel all the time, at times when I would NOT have used the BAD WORD.

I'm venturing into darker colors. I love Kryolan, but don't own any of the dark colors. Oh, I do have dark pink and it's nice, but not much for linework.

I have a dark brown Paradise which I think should just be called brown. Wish it was darker.

I'm looking for purple, brown, and a dark red. Smile

CKC, TAG Earth is a very dark brown.
http://www.facepaintforumshop.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=386

Cameleon Blood Red is about as deep a red as I have found. A little darker than Wolfe red.
http://www.facepaintforumshop.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=891

What about Paradise Wild Orchid for your purple?
http://www.facepaintforumshop.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=137

Or perhaps the Wolfe Plum. It is really dark as well.

Wolfe colors: Dark green, Plum, Deep Sea

I'll try to do some swatches of the Wild Orchid and the Blood Red if that would help. I love the dark unusual colors as an alternative to black.
(May be a day or two though cause they are inducing labor tomorrow on my daughter-in-law.) Very Happy

OK so I did find the only MAC pro web site... Shame. The issue on the small print is that it is SOOOOOOO small it has all blurred together in the printing. I think you could make it as big as a billboard and it would just look like mashed potatoes
