renewing brushes with water

Post by Gr8ful on Mon Nov 26, 2012 1:29 pm

I decided to try and renew some of my old splayed brushes after some encouragement in another thread. I took these pics but should have included before and after paint strokes too. I didn't, but the brushes are significantly improved.

What I did: Washed the brushes really well in my DFX Brush Soap. I had a small saucepan of boiling water on the stove and I carefully dipped just the bristles in for about 30 seconds and then re-shaped them. I took pics against a white background so you could see the difference.

This is after dip #1 for 30 seconds:

This is the outcome after a second dip. Thanks Miss Ronnie!!!!! I am pleased about the restoration.

Now I have all of these to restore...sigh.

Is that after they have dried? Some of my brushes have a good shape when they are wet but as soon as they dry they are back to looking splayed...

Erica, the 3 smaller ones still look good dry but my favorite (and verrry old) brush isn't as good but still better than it was before. I'm going to try it again and also try the gel to see if it works but that brush is actually from the 80's so it's not like it hasn't been good to me for many years.

Maggie, those are just the ones I'm not using. I have another fairly large stash that are still in use. ROFL. You are definitely not alone.

Hahahaha! After watching Shawna D's you tube video of her packing for a party I decided to wean down my brushes. It is so hard though, I start with a few and keep adding more while I say, oh this one too, and this one and I can't leave this one lol
