New setup, LOVE IT!!

Post by MelindaT0813 on Mon Dec 03, 2012 1:18 pm

So after reading the jewelry tray setup I realized that I owned a 5 tray jewelry box!
http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-TRAY-STORAGE-CASE-GEMSTONES-JEWELRY-DISPLAY-BOX-BEADS-/120911142692?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c26dd9f24

I actually scored it at a goodwill for a couple of dollars, was using it to store my glitter tattoo stencils (fail) and then it was my foot rest under my computer. Needless to say it was wrecked up!!!!!
So, how then do you ask is it so awesome now?

DUCK TAPE.

How big is it you ask? Well, it fits PERFECTLY into the bottom of my fatmax and leaves it about half filled. The drawers will fit any normal jewelry tray insert!
The drawers pull all the way out and fit neatly at the top of the foam "table top" created when I wrapped a foam board in more matching duck tape

At the moment still working on 5th drawer.

I'm sooo jealous! ***sighs*** I really want to move my paints into something more functional but I am scared to repot...afraid I will mess up! Good job, your kit looks great!

Review of the 50 for the 1inch splits http://nilecorp.com/products.asp?sku=PT50

Pro:
They are ALL in one place
Clearly visible
Don't have to open containers
Don't have to spend time organizing them
Looks better than the bead container

con:
The loading of the brush is about as convenient as the bead containers (not the greatest, but worth the sacrifice imo)
You can't just take one out to load (but you can hold the tray to load, like you would with the bead container)
It isn't as long as bead containers or the regular containers

I've been using the trays for months and months and I LOVE LOVE LOVE THEM!

Your fabulous case is just the cherry on top!

I haven't used the 50 tray - I have the 18 for many (but not all) of my rainbows and the 32s for my solids.

I ordered the trays and liners bounce now I am just going to have to figure out how to repot all my paints...Just Diamond FX. I saw somewhere that Snazaroo paints have seperation anxiety and EAT any other container they are put into. Shocked Any tips on repotting the DFX guys?

Review:
18 for the large splits (rainbow cakes) http://nilecorp.com/products.asp?sku=PT18

While deciding what size tray to buy I kept going back and forth between the 15 and 18 tray..... I decided on 18 because others had used it without a complaint

I had transferred 18 rainbow cakes (large split cakes) before I tried to shove my sponge in there No
When I put my sponge up to it I almost cried!!!

IT DIDN'T FIT!!!!!!!! pale
I tried to shove it in anyways and it was horrible, the corners of the cake were impossible to swipe well and I no longer had a clean edge to work from...

So what is a girl to do....
Incidentally I needed new sponges! So before I re-potted and threw these trays out the window I decided to cut up my old sponges (that were going to be thrown out anyways)
I cut about a 1/3 off the end and it fit

Before

After

So at this point I am still pretty upset till..... I go to use these new smaller sponges AND cakes.
I AM IN LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!! queen bounce cat Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

You guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY ARE THE PERFECT SIZE!!!!!
I no longer have to curl my sponge and leave out so many colors!

BEFORE

AFTER

I always felt like the full cakes were so large. Trying to get a full rainbow on a small child would basically cover their entire face. Everything is so much easier now, why did it take me so long to figure this out!!!!!!

After I had butchered the vast majority of my sponges I did realize that if I had just turned my sponge upside down I would have been able to swipe the cake well too geek Doh!

Still no regrets! I LOVE these new split cakes and smaller sponges. What a Face

That is next on the list Paola! Very Happy
First I have to finish cutting up my new sponges. I went to the dollar store, bought some thick sponges and am almost done cutting them up.
They cost me $1 and so far I have made at least 24 "pyramid" shaped sponges that are the same dimensions as my new cut up sponges. I figured I can make around 50 or so for that $1.

They are not as soft as my expensive ones but I can hardly notice the difference. I wonder of they will be as durable....

My list!:

-Black Sponges
-New Brush Holder (Outgrew my old one and it fell apart)
-A Glittery Lipstick Pallet that I would put in here http://www.coastalscents.com/make-your-own-100/press-your-own/magneticpalette12.html
-Reworking my starblends to be more opaque

I just bought one of those ice cube tube tray thingies from Walmart for $5...they make good brush holders...keeps your brushes upright so you can see them well. Wink

That is on my list too! But I meant holder when they are being stored.
I had one like this
http://www.danielsmith.com/Item--i-479-035-005
It was great for a while but then the cardboard that holds it up got soggy and it would smush my brushes while stowed in the fatmax

I have just been keeping mine in the top tray thingy of my FatMax...probably should find something that doesnt let them wiggle around but eh, it works for now. I want one of those artbin holders that LJY uses. I think I saw them on sillyfarm.

I was wondering too how different they would be compare to the expensive sponges?
Wow that is a great list!!
Erica great idea!!!
I will try to remember next time i go to Walmart!
Do u paint standing or sitting or both?
At one point i was tempted to buy one of those bag that keeps your brushes around your waist. Thought it would be easier. scratch
What do you think?

I mostly sit but I have been thinking about standing instead because I have severe scoliosis and the sitting hurts pretty bad after awhile. Well actually it always hurts but I just wonder if standing would be a bit better. I saw the waist pouch holders but I like having everything right out in front of me...that's why I got the tube thing. It might work for you though...all in personal preference. Smile

Re: New setup, LOVE IT!!

Post by Miss Ronnie on Wed Dec 12, 2012 10:39 am

After hemming and hawing for about a year over it, I went ahead and bought the jewelry case and the trays - (ordering the same liners that you did, Melinda.)

I am happy with they trays for my single colors... but find that the tiny one stroke compartments are not doable for my taste. You can NOT get a decent load with your brush in those little squares. Thank goodness I only re-potted 13 of them, because I am putting them back in the nuts & bolts containers I had them in. I'm disappointed because I really wanted to have all my paints in one convenient container.

I am going to try to one putting one of my TAG rainbow cakes in the larger compartment and see what I think. I don't think it will be as much of an issue with the larger cakes, since I load my sponges on the round side most of the time anyway.

I ordered them to and they are just sitting here because I am a big ol' scaredy cat! Shocked I have never repotted my paints and I don't know if these liners can hold 32gr of paint, they seem pretty shallow...
