Hello Everyone

I am posting for my 11 year old daughter. She just started facepainting for children birthday parties and she is a new to this. I am trying to be her mother and her number 3 fan but since I am not an artist we are bumping heads when I try to critique her work. I look forward to her learning from this forum and I am sure she will post plenty of pictures in the future.

Welcome to the Forum, artsynae!

The funny thing is....
a very short time ago, another loving mom signed onto the Forum to help choose Christmas presents for her face painting daughter.
The other mother is named gnomemom.

As an artist..
My mom is there to support me in many ways and cheer for my triumphs. If I ASK her for a critique, I have to live with the consequences of listening to an honest opinion from my Mumsy. When I have NOT asked for a critique, and she gives me her opinion (even though she is my number one fan, and wants me to get better as a face painter) I take her critique as criticism. It took me a long time, as an adult to welcome constructive critiques of my work.
I can come here and look at all the galleries of impressive work.
I can come here and watch a step-by-step tutorial of a technique or paint job.
I can look at books on face painting.
I can watch DVD's of face painting.
I can look at what other face painters are painting at festival, street fairs, etc.

I will never get any better at face painting
until I get out my brushes and paint and practice, practice, practice.

I have done a few "Face Wrecks".
I learn more from my mistakes than from my accomplishments.

Don't try to critique your daughter, she is probably hard on herself.
Offer yourself up as a face to be painted!
That would be the best thing that my Mumsy has done for me.

when you daughter gets older,
she may be choosing your retirement home.
Be kind.
Don't critique her work directly, even if she asks for the judgement.
If she asks you for an opinion, ask her what area gave her the most problem. If she is struggling with symmetry, show her how to search through the threads on this forum for the different systems we each employ to help us create symmetrical designs. (As in the corset in my avatar).

You are a very caring mom to come on this Forum for your daughter. We have a Challenge for the Newbies of the group. That thread is a caring place to post your struggles with face paint. We will be kind.

Happy Painting!
