Fast fairies?

Post by JennyNixe on Wed Dec 19, 2012 3:27 am

On Saturday, I'm painting at a Christmas party for children whose parents are in prison. There are going to be a zillion kids, so I've made a word list and got most my designs really pared down. My only problem is fairies. Does anyone have a simple and quick fairy they'd like to share? I have several princessy arty cakes, but I can't do any advanced techniques with them (like flowers). I don't NEED to use them, though. I also have Starblends, shimmer powder, and gems of all sizes, in addition to regular FP and glitter.

Thanks in advance for any ideas!

it takes longer to do cheek art than a mask. make a quick mask or eye design with specific colors, quick line work and some little antenna, only have it not resemble your butterfly mask too closely. instead of having a fairy on their face, they will BE a fairy. it's how I do mine.

Thanks for responding -- I meant to say fairy FACE. I can't figure out how to differentiate a fast fairy from a butterfly or princess.

This is what I do for a snow princess/fairy...I change it up with hearts or flowers instead of snowflakes...

What makes a fairey a fairey? To me It is really antennae but to children it is more the idea of a pretty swirly mask with elegant eye shapes and tear drop or outlines and a quick flower. The kind of flower made with a round #4 and pressed down to create a petal shape, repeated times.
My experience shows that once children see a design on someones face they say " I'll have what she's having" (take off from movie, when harry met sally, LOL). But really just a few designs and slight change is color or shift in swirls ought to make all the kids happy and the lines go faster! Keep it simple when there are tons of 'needy' eager children. This is my 2 cents.

Thanks, Erica and Aussiemarie! I took advice from both of you and made a design with Arty cake swoops on the eyes and a crown of three round brush flowers with gem centers. Outlined everything in white, then lippy and glitter. I also have gem snowflakes for winter fairies.

It went well, Aussiemarie! I only did two fairies -- princesses and Hello Kitty were the favorites of the day. A lot of the kids are in state custody, so I couldn't take any pics. I ended up going way over, but everyone was pleased with their painting, I think.

oh that's good it was appreciated. I did an event for Shop with a Cop and painted all sorts of things - mostly seasonal and small as they had presents to wrap and photos with Santa to do. These kids are needy, low income and many have parents who are in custody/jail or problems with the law.
WOndering how you were booked for the event and how much they could pay?
For my event, I basically donated all time and asked for a very small materials fee. Thought it was a gig for an hour, ended up being for 3 three....its a tough act to leave when there are cops, police, detectives, and game wardens in uniform and lots of children with expectations.....

I donated my time and materials. This is a charity that my family supports in a lot of ways and I'm friends with the executive director. I wouldn't solicit them as a business venture.

I know some people think that you shouldn't paint without getting paid, but since I donate time and money to this organization already, I don't see any difference.
