I have no "after". Only after I'm getting is new white and black and a new blue/lavender/white to replace mine that got obliterated during the carnival I did on Friday. I'm going to need metallic green and blue at least to perfect a peacock for my daughter's halloween costume this year. I've got lots of time to play! There's a glitter poofer you can see in the mirror, but not in the frame. That's all, folks!

Erica's Funny Faces wrote:I just wanted to pop in here and give an update on the Naperville,IL. Ribfest gig that I got! I met with the coordinator and went over everything yesterday. They confirmed they want me for 4hrs a day for 4 days-16hrs. May want 20 depending on how busy they are on the day of the carnival. I will get paid $800 for the 16hrs PLUS I can put out a tip jar and since the painting is free to the public (they just pay an entry into the festival and get to do everything) I am thinking tips may be pretty good as well! The lady was so cool and I think I may have even made a new friend...she was so easy to talk to. Even better, they are providing my tent, parking pass and tickets for my entire family! I feel so blessed to have landed such a big gig in my first year! The fact that it is less than 15 miles from my home is exciting to! May even get some good parties booked from it! EEEEEK!!!!! I can also sell anything I want in my booth on the side and keep all the profit, any ideas?

ERica sounds like you got a great deal 800.00 for 16 hours plus a tip jar...you could make out really well...good luck

Sorry been away a bit Eva. No lids in my case all my paints fit inside a plastic folding file box. I place a sheet of bubble wrap on top of one side and just close the box. Packing up the kit takes about 5min and i'm walking out!

Hi everyone! I'm a very new face painter.. since May this year when I stumbled across a youtube tutorial and thought...hmm.. I might be able to do this!! Anyway, I started off with awful face paints from Spotlight, our local craft store, then splashed out and bought the basic DFX pallette... Now I've bought all sorts of gorgeous paints and am finding it hard to stop!!! Anyway, I did my very first birthday party on Sunday and took this photo before I went... it looks so neat and tidy... but during the party, my table looked like a bomb had gone off!!! Paints and brushes everywhere!! I think I need to somehow reorganise things.... having the paints in the box on my table just doesn't seem to work somehow.. I need them out of the box and on the table with their lids off!! I guess it will come with experience and practice....

Yummy, Kathy! Nice kit. I like that blue 'stacked tray.' I'd ask you where you got it but it wouldn't help since you live in Australia.Wink† Looks like you are HOOKED bounce

I do like how that one opens - as opposed to the sides. (I guess it may be a light blue plastic - looks clear on my monitor)

As hard as I try to keep my area neat, it inevitably gets messy. I would definitely remove the tops of each cake though. They are not necessary, especially if they are stored inside of a case.

Grip liner under the paints helps to keep them from sliding around as you load your brushes. THis may make it easier to keep them in the trays while you work.

Post by nikkili26 on Fri Aug 16, 2013 8:39 am

my strategy to keep things in order is REMOVE EVERY LID during set up.

I just take them ALL off.

have a place for EVERYTHING. I mean EVERYTHING.

I have empty baskets I set out...and as I work, whenever I put anything down, it goes into a basket....whether it is a sponge, or a glitter container, or even a spray bottle.

Also, in between kids, I will give my kit a quick wipe with a toddler wipe, if I notice it is starting to get messy.

I'm not saying my kit is super neat and clean 100% of the time, nor am I anal or ocd about it....but I do make sure it stays clean and clear and it is very easy when I keep baskets out.

I've got to get a picture of my kit....I feel like I'm still in the "before", but maybe I should document it just to share what my "before" looks like...

I position my paints into my laptop so that I can't remove them.
The only paints I leave out are my rose/leaf cake, my shadow cake, a black cake, a white cake and a silver cake......oh, and a pink snazaroo cake! can never get enough pink on my girls!

I simply sit those on the open lid of my laptop when in use.
my brushes stay in a brush roll-I only remove one at a time, and I typically rotate them-until I'm so busy that they aren't airdrying fast enough from the alcohol-that's the only time I grab a new one.

I don't reuse sponges-but I will keep them in a shallow basket just in case the kid comes back for a touchup..I just spray it to reactivate the paint and we're good to go....I only do this at parties since I can easily track my designs....if the party is too big and busy, nobody gets a touchup til I'm done Smile

Post by ambercat on Fri Aug 16, 2013 9:56 am

Hi again! Thanks so much for all the helpful suggestions and examples of how you work... I like the idea of the baskets for instance.. that would really make the table look so much tidier... and yes, next time, all those lids will be coming right off!!!

What is a 'brush roll' nikkili? That sounds like something I could use... my brushes were all over the place!!! And yes, I'd love to see your 'before' photo if you could post one!! I love looking at other peoples set ups!!

Hi Valerie! Yes, I saw your message over in the Show and Tell thread!! Very Happy

Oh and by the way, the plastic container is a really nice lime green colour.. the blue table cloth is making it look blue... And it was really cheap... I bought it at one of those cheap stores for $10... it's really nice as it keeps all the little odds and ends in easy reach.. and I put all my sponges in the large lid section which folds down at the back.. also very handy!

I have to say I love your black brush bin ambercat! I have a green one just like it but everything in my kit is black. Seems like it would eliminate the paint stained dirty brush basin look. Smile Where did you find it in black?

Hi Erica and evie! I bought the brush bin (now I know what it's called.. thanks!! Wink†) from here... http://www.facepaintforeverybody.com/ †It's actually a dark brown....I think it was about $12.. Mind you, I just went on their website and couldn't find it anywhere! Maybe they're just out of stock.... It's a super little store here in Adelaide, South Australia... and they do ship international orders, but I have the feeling the postage might be a bit pricey.... I think you're right evie...spray paint might be a better option!

Post by ambercat on Mon Aug 26, 2013 8:56 am

I finally think I have my table organised.... forgot to include space for my gems in the last photo I posted.. how could I forget those!! Shocked† (excuse the mess in the background.. I set it up in our storage room!) I bought a new table...a fold up camping table which fits into a bag... it's a bit squeezy fitting everything on there, but it does fit! And I also spotted a shopping trolley on special at our Spotlight store for $20... and thought that would be perfect for everything to go into! Mind you, I'm sure hubby will complain and say it's too big and too much to take when we travel to our club weekend by the river in October where I am going to be face painting the kids... he always says I take too much stuff with me when we go away.. and my face painting gear will be extra on top of my other stuff this year... gulp!!! Shocked

Anyway, with the shopping trolley, I can easily carry everything all at once in one trip... just what I was aiming for!! Yay! Very Happy

I only have a 10x10 commercial pop-up but very hard to set up on my own.

Is the 5x5 easy to set up alone?, Iím very seriously considering buying one for the times that I set up at the zoo, so my husband wonít have to accompany me.
