Valerie, I have some of the softer green fantasy sponges and can't stand them lol. I hope they are more like the yellow ones I got from Jestpaint....

Erica -
1) Minimum of 100 sponges.
2) Find out how many people the festival heads typically have in attendence.
3) Business cards. Have lots of business cards.

yes i would get 100 sponges and cut them in half then you will have 200.. how many hours a day are you gonna paint and how many kids per hour can you paint will determine how many you need...I have so many now..I love the green ones but yes they are very soft...I think the ebay ones look like the ones from michaels...they are not bad I have lots of them...I do have the tack sponges similar to the ones at jest paint they are kind of stiff but as you use them and wash them they get a little softer..on another note....they make great stippleing effects for monsters and things like the wolfe brothers do...I like the green ones also cause they don't stain as bad...and the paint seams to come right out if you wash them the same day...

make sure ERica that they don't sell more tickets than you can paint or you will be there more than 3 hours a day...I hope you told them how many you can paint in an hour so they over sell the tickets...I would talk to them about that...I would hate for them to sell more tickets than you can handle especially if you are the only painter...

Your setup looks amazing Barb! I have my FatMax setup just like yours with the table top and the "leg" to support it. Except mine is a shower rod wrapped in my splatter tape, I like it because I can adjust it if the ground is unlevel... Even the mesh sponge bags Smile that was a nice find for like a buck at walmart! We are going to look at ez ups tomorrow. I am hoping that with it being out of season we might find them on sale...Your "walls" are those banners or just used to keep people out? I need to get some good banners put together. And maybe build one of those PVC stands that are in another thread... I think I like how you have just a simple "Face Painting" banner. Did Vistaprint make that?

I have a meeting with the coordinator in a few days....she basically said I just paint until I leave...whoever comes to my line. I guess my services are something they are providing. No tickets are being sold.

if they are paying you for three hours, I would have someone, a lineworker, stand there to stop your line 30 mins before you are to leave Wink

I plan on training her to start doing glitter tattoos, I bought her a Moonlight kit. Just haven't had time to teach her yet. I will have to find someone else to do the line management then...I have an 8yr old but she isn't nearly as responsible as my oldest. Maybe my Mom? Hmmm I will see when the time comes I guess lol. My 4yr old loves helping just by being "Mommy's Canvas". I hope he doesnt tire of it to soon.

I am just going to but together 5 girl and 5 boy faces for my board...does that seem like enough variety? Or should I only be doing cheeky art?

I wouldnt do cheeky art, since it takes as much time with all those tiny details, and the kids cant really see them on themselves, few fast faces sounds good!

Yea, I like doing the cheeky stuff because I am good at the small detailed things lol but your right. I am going to put together some boards soon. The lady wants me to bring a "demo" board with me when we meet... Up until now I have been just using a photo album. lol!

You will do fine!! Your painting is awesome, so you have nothing to worry about. I have done several festivals in my short painting career, and 5 boy and 5 girl designs are fine, you can always tell people that you can do a "smaller version" of the one on the board if they want that. I have things like the batman mask, and if they don't want to pay the $8 for that, I have a $4 one where I just paint the batman symbol (yellow oval with a black bat in the center)...takes no time at all I can pretty much take any of my "full face" (really just masks) designs and taylor them to a small cheek art or one eye design and still get the same "look".

Whoever is your line manager should start asking the first 3 kids waiting in line, "what are you gonna get?? what color do you think??" and get them settled on a design before they get in your chair. If a kid sits down and says "I don't know what I want"...just suggest something you paint quickly and suggest a color to match their shirt...if they say "No...I don't want that" then you tell them to stand to the side until they figure it out and you will paint the next kid in line while they decide (that usually gets them to pick something in no time flat!! lol)

Good luck, and remember...you're a professional painter, so when people say "Oh my goodnesss.....you paint so well!!", just say "Thank you!", when they say "I have never seen professional painting like this", smile....and say "Thank you".

Make sure you bring business cards (even if you print them out yourself on cardstock and handcut them), and let people know you do birthday parties too....all those mom's that freak out at their beautiful little girls will love to know that they can transform their little princess into a butterfly again...and in front of all their friends!! lol

Just a thought -- you may want someone with a bit more perceived authority than your 11 year old as a line manager. People can get pretty aggressive when they're getting something for free. At a big event last month, I planned for my 14 and 12 year olds, both of whom are adult-sized, to manage the line. Their dad (6', 250 lbs.) ended up doing it because the people in line were just too pushy. There was no overt ugliness, just people moving in too close and getting rowdy. I worked out a -- ahem-- trade for services with him.
