What my mother told me...

Post by Valerie A on Fri Feb 15, 2013 7:56 pm

I know there's more, but this is the big one I can think of now...
My mom always said to me, "I wish I was 30 and knew what I know now." (hmmmm, she had me at 31...maybe she was telling me something Twisted Evil )
I don't know how old I was, but nowhere near 30, when I said, "Why don't you tell me what you know NOW so that when I'm 30 I will know it?"
She disappointed me by telling me it didn't work like that.
And I probably wouldn't have listened anyway!
So. Now. I. Know. What. She. Was. Talking about! Laughing
Oh, to be 30, and know what I know now!

I got the idea for this thread from Fesspenter's & JJJJJ's hilarious comments here

Please, add you stories about what your mum told you and what you eventually decided about it.

My mum usually just told me "No, Gilly. Stop that, Gilly."

I never listened then. I listen less, now. Very Happy

The one that always got me was "Trust me,this hurts me a lot more than it does you!" Ummm I really don't think that was even a little bit true...

Don't bite your sister.
Always wear clean underwear.
Never meet anybody from a ChatRoom in a private place.
Never reveal your real name to anybody on that interwebs place.
Men with overly large sideburns are hung like hamsters.
Don't listen to what men say... watch what they do, to reveal their true character.
Always tell the truth. There is no good white lie.
Always protect the littlest one.
Do not point and laugh on your wedding night.
Never get any tattoos on your face.
Before you walk out the door to an event, take off one piece of jewelry to avoid looking trashy.
Find a penny, pick it up, then all day you will have good luck.
If another woman has spinach in her teeth, pull her aside and tell her, and hope other women do the same for you.
Dress for the event, and, the weather.
The person you are when nobody is looking is who you really are.
If mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.
Wear nude colored panties under white pants, not white shmundies.
Take care of your teeth.
If you talk during a movie in a theatre, your mama will have to kill you.
Always tell your real age, never lie about it. Be proud of who you are now.
Men go crazy for the smell of clean skin. Women do not need to wear perfume.
Take care of your shoes.

My mom always said, when my brother was bullying me (even if I told him several times to stop) ignore him/it, and he will stop because when they get no reaction the fun will soon be over.

But it never worked!

I tell my kids to listen to eachother and if they can't solve it among themselves, to come to us for help!

I'm loving all these!
Amy, that "Mom Song" made me laugh so hard!
Lisa, your mom is mostly a very wise woman...is that why you have such common sense? Very Happy

And do you repeat to YOUR children things you hated to hear when you were a kid??

The night before my wedding Mom sat me down for a talk. She told me that I might need to do some things I didn't like to keep my husband happy. (she thinking I was all innocent) I didn't say it out loud, but I thought "If I don't like it I'm NOT doing it!" To this day, sorry Mom, but if I don't like it I"M NOT DOING IT!! Wink
