Can you overpaint yourself?

Post by Shiranshoku on Thu Mar 07, 2013 6:20 pm

Hi!

I was wondering if you can paint yourself too often in a short period of time? I had no classes today AND my new paints arrived so I went a little crazy :p

I painted my face 5 times in three hours. I also painted my legs. I removed it each time with a washcloth and soap (Dove - similar to Ivory I think). After the last time, I took a shower.

Now I'm using PartyXplosion for the first time, and it's harder to remove than Snazaroo. When I was done, I put some Eucerin lotion on my face as my skin felt a bit tight.

Now I feel and look sunburnt, but kinda splotchy. Since my legs are fine, I figure I just overdid it? What are your thoughts? Should I worry about the PartyXplosion?

Thanks!

I am not sure, but its most likely the soap drying and causing a bit of a reaction due to the perfume etc. I have never reacted to face paint although I didn't paint myself and wash that many times lol...

I would imagine if you washed yourself that many times without paint, your skin would feel dry! You can also have dermatitis (inflamed skin) to anything you put on your skin, but I don't know if it follows that you should specifically be concerned with PartyExplosion over any other brand you used.

FYI, if I am practicing a lot in a row, I use a cream-based cleanser and moisturize with pure coconut oil between. The coconut oil serves two purposes for me, one its moisturizes, but it also makes it MUCH easier to remove the paint!

Thanks for the hint! I don't usually put soap on my face, or even make up so I'm not used to dealing with it being dry. I'll keep an eye out for a reaction next time!

It does bother me, though.

By the way, would baby oil help for removing staining colours? I always use it to remove eye make up, and on the ends of my hair, so the thought just popped up Smile

I have that problem after I paint/wash my face too many times in a day, too.

Today I tried something new and used an old (clean) stray sock as a bath mitt to wash my skin. It was much gentler than a wash cloth. I've been meaning to buy some baby wash cloths, but keep forgetting.

Oooh, nice one! I only have the regular washcloths that you put your hand inand they're quite rough on the skin... But I do have lots of spare socks!

I painted myself 17 times one afternoon as I needed photos for a display and had no model available. My face was SORE!

Sometimes, even if you're not allergic, too much exposure can give you an allergic-like reaction. I know this because one summer, my stepfather thought it would be a good idea to let my two-year-old son eat as many tomatoes as he wanted from the garden. He and my mom were watching my kids while I was at work, so I had no idea that the child had eaten FIFTEEN tomatoes in a day. After he developed hives, my stepfather confessed. The pediatrician reminded me that I should only leave my children with competent adults.

So, this is really just a long was of saying that you might want to take a benedryl if you're feeling itchy.

I know that if I overpaint my face, I get a really bad reaction - but it's not to the paint, it's to the repeated cleansing. I have very dry, sensitive skin and it just can't deal with that.

I know it's the cleansing because my skin's fine with the paint ON.....just not when I remove it.

If I paint myself too many times this will happen to me also. I use a moisturizer to clean and try to gently pat dry, but I get sore skin just the same.

Make sure you don't use baby wipes either. Even the good ones make my face raw...but yeah, you over painted. Smile
